This route was planned by komoot.
The route we've planned today is called Tête Chevalière (Horseman's Head) and, while it doesn't have a prominent peak, is still quite challenging. Today, for the first time, we have to set out in the fog, anxiously awaiting when and if it will clear. We actually wade through the murky mists the entire way up. Shortly before reaching the plateau, the moment finally arrives: the sun slowly breaks through, and suddenly the deep blue sky is visible – wow! It's time for a break, full of wonder and enjoyment, digging around, and playing. Afterward, we head across the high plateau on sheep paths. Hikers passing us tell us they've already gotten lost up here in the fog – quite imaginable, and what a joy to be able to look above the clouds today and see the high peaks rising from them! Before re-entering the foggy atmosphere, we pass a mountain hut, a war memorial, and two nearby caves. Resistance fighters hid here during the German conquest of the Pas de l'Aiguille in July 1944. Eighteen of them escaped through the fog and headed towards the valley. We follow their path and return to our starting point through autumn forests and small villages.
