Saint-Pierre Park

Highlight • Other

The modern city park extends over 19 hectares and in a way continues the marshland on the other side of the boulevard. Water is omnipresent (bodies of water, basins, damp gardens) and the vegetation (elms and willows) is inspired by the landscapes of Picardy. The park offers relaxation for all age groups: boules, playgrounds, pedal boating on the lake, picnic areas and much more.

Notre-Dame d'Amiens Cathedral

Highlight • Historical Site

Amiens Cathedral is a magnificent example of 13th century Gothic architecture from northern France.

The cathedrals of Chartres, Reims and Notre-Dame de Paris are also among these marvelous religious buildings which took up to a hundred years to build.

The superb tympanum facing the esplanade and representing the Last Judgment is very realistic. He must have impressed a lot in his time.

The Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

The town hall of Amiens is an impressive building built in the second half of the eighteenth century. The town hall was built on the site of a Roman amphitheater. Originally, the square was separated from the town hall by a large fence. This fencing was removed at the end of the last century to make the square available to the public. At the town hall you can see statues of King Louis the Sixth and Bishop Geoffrey. The town hall is beautifully illuminated in the evenings.

#10 - The club life of Jules Verne

During the 34 years I spent in Amiens, I took an active part in the life of the association. In 1872 I was admitted to the Academy of Amiens.
In 1895 I was appointed manager of the Savings Bank of Amiens, where I vouched for the deposits. When I go there, the Savings Bank building is at 19 rue de la République, also known as rue des Rabuissons. Between 1898 and 1904 I was a member of the board of directors and on May 2, 1898 I presented the report on the activities of the savings bank for the year 1897. In 1904 I resigned from this post because of my age and poor eyesight.
In 1889 I joined the Société Industrielle of Amiens, which had been founded in 1861 by weavers to promote regional industry and whose patrons included the engineer Edouard Gand, one of my best friends from Amiens. I like going to the richly stocked library of this association at 29 rue de Noyon.
I also joined the Horticultural Union and made two speeches at the general meetings in 1891 and 1894.

Musée de Picardie

Highlight • Other

The Musée de Picardie is a marvel of eclecticism. Ranging from magnificent prehistoric collections to sculptures by Josesph Stanislas Lecorné.

Created in 1867, this makes it one of the first French museums. It will satisfy all curiosities.

One Amiens, please – with everything!
This tour is like a crêpe with everything: a deluxe Gothic cathedral, a bit of a shopping mile, a touch of concrete romance (bonjour, Tour Perret!), and to wind down, a stroll through the vegetable fairytale known as the Hortillonnages. In between, there's beer, bricks, and French bohemianism – in short, if you're not …
