Walk description: An easy circular walk that packs a punch from the off with stunning views across the Howardian Hills area of outstanding natural beauty, and bags you a trig point before descending to the river Rye for a gentle meander back to Nunnington village. Starting point (postcode or What Three Words reference): Use postcode YO62 5US along from the church on the right hand side driving out of the village is some hard standing parking. Use What3words ///caressing.slyly.frames the footpath is opposite the church. Walk type: baby-carrying Terrain: Farm track and fields, can be muddy in places Refreshments: The Old Yard coffee shop at Nunnington studios is open during the summer months and is perfect for a sit down after your walk. There is also a pottery studio, photography studio and interiors shop so bring your pocket money! At other times of the year there is the Nunnington Hall Tearoom (admission charge applies) or The Park in Hovingham five minutes drive, open Tuesday-Saturday Toilets: Al Fresco Baby changing: Al Fresco Other tips: for the final stretch of the walk there are sheep so dogs must be on a lead.
A beautiful walk in every season, leaving the village of Nunnington it follows the river Rye through rolling fields to the small hamlet of Ness before making a gentle ascent up to Caukleys bank with 360 degree views across Ryedale and the North York Moors beyond. Crossing the road it contines across the bank before descending back into the village. From March the Old Yard coffee shop is worth a visit for a cuppa and fantastic cake. Nunnington studios is also home to a local potter, photographer and an antiques shop.
This easy 4 mile loop from the Village of Nunnington, part of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty can either start from the top of the village, or start and end at National Trust Nunnington Hall. This makes for a great run, and an equally great baby carrying family walk, with views reaching across Ryedale. Finish with a trip to the hall for an explore and a cuppa in their river side tea rooms, or head across the road to Nunnington studio's, a collection of independent artists, photographers and potters and a fantastic cafe.
