Hiking

On this tour you get up close and personal with an icon of Dutch sporting history: the Zandvoort motorsport racetrack. You don't need a fast car, just a bit of wanderlust. You stroll along the race track through the dune landscape.

It starts in the parking lot near the home straight of the route. From here you circle the course clockwise. But first there is a short detour to a viewing point. From here you can see parts of the track, the grandstand and the beautiful dunes that surround the race track.

After you have enjoyed the panorama, you now hike along the race track. And you immediately have a top-class sight in sight: the “Tarzanbocht”. This corner is one of the most notorious on the course. When there are exciting overtaking maneuvers in a race, the “Tarzanbocht” is usually where the action takes place.

Luckily you don't have any stress and don't have to overtake anyone, you just continue hiking in a relaxed manner. You always have an eye on the historic curves. The “Circuit Zandvoort” was opened in 1948. In the 1980s, the Formula 1 chapter seemed to be closed. Only smaller races were held. But the comeback came in 2021, and since then Zandvoort has been firmly anchored in the Formula 1 calendar again. Along the way, you'll also learn something about the predecessors of Max Verstappen and Co. For example, the last corner you pass before you come back to the starting point is named after the Dutch racing driver Arie Luyendyk.

The race track is located north of the city center. A parking lot directly on the route is the starting point of the tour. Zandvoort aan Zee train station is just under two kilometers away on foot.

Circuit Zandvoort

Highlight • Structure

For several years now, more and more residents have been complaining about the noise generated by the various races. Therefore, races can only be held on a limited number of weekends. This was also the reason why the traditional Formula 3 Masters was moved to Zolder in 2007. In recent years there have been repeated attempts to relocate the route. A new attempt should be made in 2008. The new building is intended to achieve the highest FIA safety regulations. However, fans and those responsible fear that the course on the North Sea coast could lose its character. In addition, relocating Circuit Park Zandvoort would mean losing one of the city's most important sources of income.
