The estimated duration for completing the Lago Palù e Dighe di Campo Moro mountain bike loop is approximately 4 hours and 37 minutes. This can vary based on your fitness level and how often you stop to enjoy the scenery.
This is classified as a difficult mountain bike route. It requires good physical preparation and advanced riding skills due to significant elevation changes and varied terrain, including steep sections where you might need to push your bike.
The route starts from Chiesa in Valmalenco. You should look for designated parking areas within Chiesa in Valmalenco to begin your ride. Specific parking details may vary, so it's advisable to check local signage upon arrival.
The terrain is quite varied. You'll encounter approximately 24.9 km of asphalt, 12.6 km of unpaved roads, 2.18 km of dirt, and 1.88 km of natural trails. Some parts can be very steep, with gradients around 20-25%.
The best time to mountain bike this route is typically during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn, when the snow has melted and the trails are dry. Always check local weather conditions before heading out, as alpine weather can change rapidly.
Key highlights along the route include the charming San Giuseppe Village, the stunning Lake Palù, the scenic Alpe Campolungo, and the impressive Campo Moro Dams. You'll also enjoy breathtaking views of the Valmalenco landscape, including glaciers and ski slopes.
Yes, this route intersects with several other paths. You'll find sections that are part of trails like Don Nicolò to Passo del Muretto, Alta Via della Valmalenco - Tappa 5, and Sentiero Italia - Tappa D25N, among others.
While dogs are generally allowed on many trails in the region, it's important to keep them on a leash, especially in areas with livestock or wildlife. Given the challenging nature of this route, ensure your dog is fit enough for the distance and elevation, and always carry enough water for both of you.
Typically, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required for mountain biking this particular route. However, it's always a good idea to check for any local regulations or temporary restrictions before your trip.
Yes, you may find opportunities to refuel. Alpe Campolungo is highlighted as a destination for nature lovers, suggesting potential facilities. Additionally, you might find cafes or restaurants in Chiesa in Valmalenco or near the Campo Moro dams, but it's wise to carry sufficient supplies.
E-bikes are permitted on this route and can be very helpful, especially for tackling the significant climbs, such as the section from Dosso dei Vetti to Passo di Campo Lungo. They can make the challenging ascents more manageable.
Given the route's difficulty and length, you should bring plenty of water, snacks, a repair kit for your bike, appropriate clothing layers for changing alpine weather, a helmet, and a first-aid kit. A fully charged phone and a map or GPS device are also highly recommended.
September 24. Magnificent Valmalenco. Over 2000 meters of very tiring altitude difference that are a real challenge even on an e-bike. The route starts from Chiesa and on technically manageable dirt roads and paths (I modified the route with the planner) arrives at the beautiful Lake Palu'. Silence and contemplation of a fantastic place. Resuming the route you arrive at the dam of Lake Gera. Impressive and with a breathtaking view of the valley. On the way back after a road that passes through icy and dark tunnels, the tough climb along the ski slopes, the following steep descent and after a path between ruined houses you emerge in front of a cycle path that to call perfect would be an understatement. Not only for the view but also for the speed it allows you to reach on the descent. 9 4%

He didn't register me from Lake Palù to Cima Motta because he went on break during lunch 🙄😅
In the Palù-Alpe Musella stretch you pass along the ski slopes, then on gravel and stone, at the entrance to the path to Alpe Musella you have to pay attention to hikers as the path is narrow
Loop tour from Lanzada, I remembered it being less tiring but it's all a question of training. 👍👍😁
Wonderful tour accessible to everyone with a minimum of familiarity.
