Are you ready to escape the busy city for a while? Then the Amstelpark and the Middelpolder offer a solution. During this trip of over 9 kilometers you will completely relax.

You first go on a voyage of discovery in the Amstelpark, where creative art, activities and nature come together. Via two historical monuments in the park you will find your way to the Riekermolen, which marks the beginning of the polder landscape.

With the Amstel a few kilometers on your left and the Middelpolder on your right, it is completely relaxing in nature. You will experience the Middelpolder even better a little later if you walk straight through it. It's hard to imagine a more Dutch landscape than this!

Through the vast polder you slowly return to the Amstelpark, where you discover the greenery that you had not yet seen on the way there. Enjoy crackling paths along the water and listen to the whispering of the trees. Of course you can stop by one of the catering establishments in the park for a snack and drink.

For those who leave their city bike at home today: the route starts and ends at the Amstelpark bus stop and is therefore also accessible by public transport.

N.A.P. Flood Marker

Highlight • Monument

This N.A.P. post (Normaal Amsterdams Peil) shows the highest water level of the three floods that hit our country.

1421 The water level was 3.40 m above sea level.
1916 The water level was 2.90 m above sea level.
1953 The water level was 4.60 m above sea level.

Since the polders in the Netherlands are many meters below sea level, the actual water level during the flood in 1953 was more than 10 meters in some places in the polders.

Riekermolen

Highlight • Monument

Large windmill built in 1636 to drain the surrounding land. The mill originally stood in the Riekerpolder. When the mill had to be relocated due to the expansion of the Nieuwe Meer, the mill was given its current location.

Middelpolder

Highlight • Natural

Here in the Middelpolder you can walk through the unique Dutch polder landscape. It became increasingly difficult for the region around the Amstel river to drain the water naturally. That is why a number of new polders were constructed around 1630, including the Middelpolder. It owes its name to the fact that it is located in the middle of the other polders.
