Caldes de Malavella Roman Baths

Highlight • Historical Site

The Turo de Sant Grau thermal baths used the waters of the Bullidors spring. An extensive swimming pool and some remains of annexed buildings are currently preserved.

This large pool, originally, was surrounded by a series of galleries on two floors, one located at the height of the first, and the other, above the previous one. There would be other constructions, but it is difficult to have an idea of them and their importance.
In the upper part there were, at least, two galleries covered with a barrel vault, parallel, one compartmentalized and the other not, which would be used to collect, cool and distribute the thermal water.

The remains that are currently preserved are those of the lower part. The pool was the center and core of the building. It is square, with 9.6 m of external corner and a total surface of 92 m2. At three of the four corners there are 5 steps, which would be used to get down or to sit down. The depth is one meter and at the bottom it measures 8.15 m X 6.60 m. It was in the open air, since given that it was well sheltered, that the climate was benign and that the water temperature was high, even in winter one could take baths in a pleasant way. Around the pool was a gallery of something more than 2 m wide.

It is one of the lakes in the area. In particular, this lake is easily accessible from the EuroVelo. There are shadows and small beaches where you can rest.
