This route was planned by komoot.
The full circuit is approximately 50 kilometers long. While the komoot tour suggests a duration of around 3 hours and 12 minutes, this can vary significantly based on your pace, stops for sightseeing, and whether you choose to explore both branches of the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges. Plan for a leisurely half to full day to truly enjoy the scenery.
Yes, the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges is largely considered easy to moderate, making it ideal for cyclists of all levels, including families. It follows old railway lines, ensuring a generally gentle gradient. The surface is wide, smooth asphalt, perfect for a comfortable ride.
The main starting point for the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges is in Remiremont, where you can find parking facilities. Additional access points and parking may be available in villages along the route, such as Dommartin-lès-Remiremont, Vagney, Le Thillot, and Cornimont.
You'll experience diverse and picturesque landscapes. The route winds through Vosgian valleys, at the foot of mountains and forests, traversing meadows, and charming villages. Expect open views of mountains and meadows, dense forests, significant granite rock formations, and glimpses of the Moselotte gorges.
Along the way, you can enjoy several notable spots. Keep an eye out for the Green path between rocks, the Old Vagney railway station, and the Intersection of the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges. You'll also pass the Former Hielle station. Beyond these, look for the Gorges de Crozery, the Source de Chaudefontaine in Vecoux, and views of the Ballon d'Alsace.
The best time to cycle the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges is typically from spring through autumn. During these seasons, the weather is generally pleasant, and the natural scenery is at its most vibrant. Summer offers warm, sunny days, while spring and autumn provide cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage.
Yes, dogs are generally allowed on the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges. However, as it's a multi-activity pathway shared with cyclists, rollerbladers, and walkers, it's essential to keep your dog on a leash and ensure they are well-behaved to maintain a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to cycle the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges within the Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges. The greenway is publicly accessible. However, always respect local regulations and the natural environment of the park.
Yes, the trail is well-equipped with amenities. You'll find picnic areas spaced every 3-4 kilometers. Toilets and water are available at the starting point in Remiremont, with additional facilities at certain points along the Moselotte branch of the greenway.
The terrain is predominantly wide, smooth asphalt ('enrobé lisse'), making it very comfortable for touring bicycles. Since it follows old railway lines, the gradient is generally gentle and consistent, avoiding steep climbs. This smooth surface also makes it suitable for rollerblading and ski-wheeling.
Yes, the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges is designed for connectivity. It can be integrated into longer cycling tours and serves as a starting point for other marked cycling routes in the region. You can create loop circuits, and there's even a bus-TER service between Cornimont and Bussang to help navigate elevation changes and facilitate longer itineraries.
The greenway has two main branches diverging from Remiremont at Dommartin-lès-Remiremont: one towards Bussang (Moselle Valley) and another towards Cornimont (Moselotte Valley). To experience both, you could cycle one branch as an out-and-back, then return to the intersection and cycle the other. Alternatively, consider using the bus-TER service between Cornimont and Bussang to create a larger loop, saving you from retracing your steps on the greenway itself.
A beautiful tour through the Vosges. The entire route is paved. Definitely a treat for racing cyclists too. We started in Cornimont and rode slightly downhill for the first few kilometers. We didn't need a battery. The route is wonderful, the nature impressive and calming. The old railway line is wonderful to ride. There is a steep climb in Le Thillot past the church. From the "Col du Menil" sign there is a great descent to Cornimont. Unfortunately it is a country road that is well used. Have fun.
