Running

The first Tour of this Collection, with its 27 kilometres, is the longest, as it takes you through the panoramic Ferret Valley to the foot of the Pré de Bar glacier. The terrain is ideal for running and the views amply repay the effort.

As you move away from the center of Courmayeur, the terrain becomes increasingly steeper. After a few curves on the way up, you reach a viewpoint near the top. The view of Courmayeur and Mont Chetif is truly spectacular. Once you have completed the last zigzags, you reach the crest where the Bertone refuge is located, which marks the end of the ascent. At an altitude of 2,000 metres, your surroundings are dominated by Mont Blanc and the impressive Grandes Jorasses.

From here, you leave the ridge to follow the Ferret valley at high altitude along a panoramic path that offers breathtaking views of Mont Blanc. The views of the glaciers and suspended seracs are particularly evocative. This wonderful panorama continues as you cross some streams and make your way past Arminaz before reaching the Bonatti refuge. From here, the descent to the village of Arnuova begins early, where you can take a break for lunch.

With fresh legs, continue on the path that takes you past the Elena refuge, after which the terrain climbs steeply onto shale terrain and then over the rocky ridge to the Fiorio bivouac, an unrivaled place at an altitude of 2,810 metres, right next to the glacier of Pré de Bar.

Once you've taken in all the amazing views, you can head back to Arnuova, where you can easily catch a bus from the Arp Nouvaz stop back to Courmayeur.

Walter Bonatti Refuge

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Bonatti refuge is located at 2,025 m above sea level, at the entrance to the Malatrà valley. It is nestled at the foot of the Grandes Jorasses, facing the magnificent Fréboudze glacier. It overlooks a panorama that embraces the Mont Blanc chain, from Col de la Seigne to Col Ferret. Born from the friendship between Pierre Sicouri, Sergio Favre and Flavio Guichardaz, it was named after the mountaineer and explorer Walter Bonatti. Work on its construction began in July 1996 and it was inaugurated two years later. Open in both summer and winter, it can be reached from Val Ferret in just over an hour's walk, after crossing larch woods and alpine pastures.

Fiorio bivouac

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Cesare Fiorio bivouac is located at an altitude of 2,810 meters, in the upper Ferret valley. It is a remote place and accessible only for a limited part of the year. The panoramic view from this point is beyond words to describe its beauty. You can only remain contemplating the landscape in silence. From here you can see Mont Dolent, the Pointe du Prè de Bar, the Aiguille de Triolet and a large expanse of the Prè de Bar glacier, which is heavily crevassed. By turning your head slightly, you can admire the entire plain of Val Ferret, with dozens of imposing pine forests.

The route to reach the bivouac passes through rocks and in some places requires a short climb with the help of your hands, but each step rewards you with an even more astonishing view. Intensely colored alpine flowers emerge among the rocks. As you get closer, you can see the round roof of the old Fiorio bivouac and shortly after you arrive at the current Fiorio bivouac, which is located a short distance from the previous one.
