Running

If you're looking for a slightly more challenging experience, this is the Tour for you. The penultimate route of this Collection is a compelling experience for those who love trail running, offering an extraordinary adventure along the majestic Croda da Lago, between the woods and one of the most fascinating lakes in the Dolomites.

Starting from Cortina, cross the Boite river and travel through the hamlet of Crignes. The trail continues through the picturesque towns of Melères and Lacedel, heading towards the ski slopes hidden behind the houses. From here, immerse yourself in a steep climb into the woods until you reach Pocol, with a short panoramic detour that offers breathtaking views of Cortina and the Cinque Torri formations, Mount Cristallo and the Tofane.

The trail continues on flat terrain, skirting the majestic Croda da Lago up to the suggestive Federa lake, where a refuge is reflected in its crystal clear waters. This oasis of serenity is a highlight: with nature, colors and the Becco di Mezzodì they create a unique atmosphere, making Lake Federa one of the alpine jewels of the Dolomites. The route winds along a wide path, with the Croda da Lago on the right offering an impressive view of its highest peak, the Cima d'Ambrizzola, at 2,715 metres.

Climbing steeply to the Ambrizzola fork, you have a clear view of the majestic Mount Pelmo. The route passes between the Croda da Lago and the Lastoi de Formin, with a suggestive almost lunar atmosphere created by the dolomite rocks. Once you reach the forcella de Formin, at 2,462 meters above sea level, you enjoy a wide view characterized by reddish outcrops. After the challenging climb, the trail offers a thrilling descent, completing a panoramic circuit around the mountain before returning to Cortina following a path parallel to the outward route.

Croda da Lago Hut and Lake Federa

The Croda da Lago Refuge is located on the shores of Lake Federa. It was built in 1901 with the name "Barbaria Hütte", because it was wanted by the mountain guide Giovanni Barbaria "Zuchin". Only after the First World War did it become "Rifugio Croda da Lago".
