Very nice loop hike to do preferably in the fall to enjoy the magnificent colors of the larches
A stopover on the way home from vacation is a tradition. It's always exciting to see where we decide to go and what will make our day with as little detour as possible. This year we chose the ridge over La Seya to the Grand Garde. The internet promised sun, blue skies and a sea of flowers in a beautiful mountain landscape. Well... and as soon as we took the cable car to shorten the first 500 meters of the climb, the clouds covered the sun. That was a shame. So neither the mountain peaks towering above us nor the lovely flower meadows were visible. And yet it was nice to walk. The short, sharp climb up to La Seya. The gentle hills there, including the wide view over the Rhône valley. On the other side, Mont Blanc is very close. The peaks, however, are hidden behind clouds. No problem... I had a great view of them last week. Now it was directed towards the narrow path that curved gently towards the bare summit of the Grand Garde. A herd of cattle blocked our way behind the rocky outcrop of sediment, looking at us with boredom, if not contempt. What would we be thinking of spending this peaceful day hiking instead of chewing and digesting in the lush green? When we arrived at the Grand Garde, we paused briefly. One last view over the heights of the Alps before heading downhill again. First through loosely planted larches, then over hill and dale through the forest down to the Odonne farmstead, which was uninhabited today. Lost my glasses on the way, we lost even more time, so we took a shortcut from Odonne via the scooter path (FORBIDDEN! Don't try this! ☝🏼) and ended our holiday in the Alps back at the camper.
