This route was planned by komoot.
A leisurely stroll along the Levada do Caldeirao Verde. The trail leads from the Pico das Pedras car park to the Florestal Park in Queimadas. The forest is considered a core zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its species-rich vegetation. No tunnels and no chasms, but wide and easily accessible. ;-) Unfortunately, the typical thatched Santana cottages along the way are very dilapidated. You will find oak, maple, laurel and standard eucalyptus trees here. In the Florestal Park you can take a break in Casa Abrigo. There are picnic tables and a duck pond. From here, further levada hikes can be undertaken. We did the walking tours during our short break in Madeira. All gates have been selected so that they do not pose a particular challenge. Yes, in Madeira all roads lead to the top. ;-) Steep gradients are therefore unavoidable. It must also be mentioned here that it is in your own interest to wear hiking/trekking shoes trails. Yes, we saw hikers with flip flops. Always have rain gear with you. The weather can change in a very short time. Despite rain gear, we got really wet on a tour - no rain was announced. Please keep in mind that paths become slippery and slippery after rain, especially if they are paved with natural stones, as in Madeira. I wish you a lot of fun hiking in Madeira. A lovely short hike through a beautiful forest park at an altitude of about 800 metres above sea level with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and great flora.
The road became increasingly lonely, the jungle greener, I never would have thought there would be such a large parking lot with an LED display. A short version of the PR 9, this one was not closed, but still beautiful, albeit very muddy. We sometimes walked behind the railing. At the start/finish point, there was an opportunity to wash your shoes and, of course, coffee and cake.
Today I dropped René at the Encumeadapass so that he could do the ridge hike to Pico Ruivo. To bridge the gap, I took the short walk to Queimadas before I went on the short hike to Pico Ruivo myself. In Queimadas, the levadatour starts in the green basin, which we have also planned for novh. You can hang this walk in front as a section.
Our first levadas tour of which there are countless here. The lush nature is simply breathtaking. Everything is bursting with liveliness 😃🌳
It felt like being in the tropics 🏝 ... and we got pretty wet in Madeira today 🙄😳 ... so we caught part of the rainy days on our vacation 🙈 .... but even so there is a lot to see…. see Hop Off, Hop On Tours 🥾🥾
