We took the train to Geneva and took a beautiful city walk. Definitely a gem on Lake Geneva!
Today the journey was the destination... I drove from Lucerne to Geneva just to experience the fascination of Lake Geneva, because so many celebrities are drawn here. The train even stopped in Gland, where M. Schumacher lives. The landscape put me in the mood for France. When I arrived at the lake in Geneva, the French scent was in the air and the lake really impressed me with its clarity. You no longer have the feeling of being in Switzerland. Only the Swiss flags and cowbells at the souvenir stalls remind you of it... Due to the short time, the tour was a bit shorter, but it was enough to get a first impression of the city. My thoughts on the way home: Having too much money also makes you unfree... And if you look at the lake every day, it will eventually become everyday... Normal life can also be very beautiful... I'm happy😊
Paying a visit to Switzerland's most international city at the warmest time of year is undoubtedly an attractive, and in floristic terms even a flowery affair. However, its almost Mediterranean location on the south-west side of Lake Geneva (French: Lac Leman) means that the city's temperatures can soar through the roof, making you sweat. Even the most shady spot feels like a visit to the sauna. The only advice that helps is to postpone the visit until a cooler time of year, or to fill your backpack with bathing equipment and a generous supply of liquids. Whatever. We allowed ourselves to say "Bonjour" to Geneva at the end of June and in the process got our "fat" off in the truest sense of the word. Nevertheless, our immersion in the cradle of Swiss watchmaking turned out to be a colorful, interesting and sensory-stimulating undertaking. Although Geneva does not top the list of the most beautiful Swiss cities, it has a number of other attractions in addition to all the well-known tourist attractions, such as the "Jet d'Eau" (fountain), the towering "Saint Pierre Cathedral", the multicultural "Parc Anglaise" (English park) or the old town district around the "Place du Bourg Four" with its sandstone buildings, where the terraces of the restaurants and street cafés are well occupied by locals and foreigners alike. Geneva... sorry Genève, is a Swiss metropolis that smoothly combines old with new, or vice versa. The fact that luxury is part of the city's DNA must be accepted with a wink. Would you like a few tips? Plan enough time for Geneva and choose your sightseeing route carefully (in advance). It is easy to get lost among all the sights. If you want to stay overnight, perhaps because you also want to pay a visit to the impressive "CERN" (the largest particle physics laboratory in the world) or the imposing "Palais des Nations" (League of Nations Palace), it is worth choosing accommodation on the French side of Lake Geneva for cost reasons. If you are travelling by car, it is also advisable not to venture too far into the centre. As in many larger cities, there is a lack of parking spaces here and at peak times, it is tinny chaos. By the way. After pulsating Geneva, we took a more relaxed approach and visited the historic towns (villages) of "Perouges" (dreamlike), "Annecy" (impressive), "Thonon les Bains" (relaxed) and "Yvoire" (a bit touristy) in neighbouring France. It's worth it! Have fun. ;-)
