The weather forecast was wrong again today! It was forecast for 13-15 degrees, but in reality it was only 8 degrees. From Filsen onwards, the cycle paths and roads are in terrible condition, and the permanent construction sites around Koblenz seem endless! After Koblenz, near the Koblenzer brewery, the cycle path towards Boppard as far as Stolzenfels was closed, with no prior signage! Damn the authorities and construction company! So we had to go back a few kilometers and take the busy federal highway all the way to Stolzenfels. It's just so annoying how the authorities failed to do their job! I just have to get this off my chest.
The upper Middle Rhine Valley, which covers the section from Koblenz to Bingen, is impressive with its overwhelming abundance of castles and castle ruins, medieval city centers and walls, vineyards and many other sights. I only made it to Kaub and back today because it was too warm for top performance at 30°C and I didn't set off until midday when the sun was already at its zenith. Nevertheless, the route is beautiful with its many Rhine loops and always new views of the Rhine and the sometimes very steep rocks on both sides. The cycle path is clearly more beautiful on the left bank of the Rhine. On the right bank of the Rhine, the path is often bumpy and narrow. More or less secluded beer gardens can be found on both sides of the river.
Tour from Lahnstein to the Loreley. Changed to the Rhine side at St. Georg and back via Boppard. Nice tour, but unfortunately partly not very bike-friendly on the B-roads
No, today there was no fog, it was just hazy, let's go to the Loreley! 💪🏻😇 Simply along the Rhine to St. Goar and with the ferry over to St. Goarshausen and up to the Loreley. Just nice and quiet and comfortable or a little "uncomfortable" we went up to the Loreley, but "man" has a motor (but I "only" pedaled up in tour mode). 😅 On the way "down" I did a loop (serpentines) to Patersberg and then drove wonderfully via Schönebeck (very nice bike path) back down to St. Goarshausen - a loop that's worth it!!! 👌🏻 So, and now just along the Rhine back to Urbar, with a shopping stop in Lahnstein. Nice tour, just let it roll...😅😎🙋🏼♂️
It felt like we were always on the "wrong" side of the Rhine. Unfortunately, the bike path is right next to the main road.
The first highlight of this stretch of the Rhine was the wind at our backs. It was like gliding along. The real highlight, however, came in Boppard – here you could take a chairlift up to the Rheinschleifenblick and Vierseenblick views, or, of course, hike up. A fantastic view from above. We then had to walk down unplanned, as the lift was shut down indefinitely due to a slightly stronger breeze. Of course, it started up again just as we reached the bottom. That's how it is with the wind sometimes – sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse. The Deutsches Eck in Koblenz with the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial was our destination – the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle. Apparently, the water colors are supposed to be different, but I couldn't tell, not even in the picture.
On our 5th and final Bad Ems tour we took the Lahn cycle path to Lahnstein and then on the right bank of the Rhine to St. Goarshausen. From there we took the ferry to the other side of the Rhine to St. Goar and then on the left bank to Koblenz and back to Bad Ems. Although the right bank of the Rhine had some beautiful sections, we liked the left bank of the Rhine much better.
A very windy day! Headwind in the morning, and on the way back the wind had turned and was headwind again!
