This route was planned by komoot.
There are two highlights on this tour: the mighty Salto do Prego in a breathtakingly beautiful setting under dense foliage and the peaceful mountain village of Saguinho. As always on Sáo Miguel: It's better to plan twice as much time as komoot recommends!
The ascent through the forest over partly narrow and steep hiking trails is well marked. The way back via Sanguinho is very slippery in wet weather because it is an old steep stone path. The village is definitely worth a detour!

Small incident as the path was flooded due to heavy rains 🌧 and we lost the way way twice but a super scenic hike and we met noone along the way (apart from chickens 🐔, rabbits 🐇, cows 🐄 and cats 🐈). The Azores are a true hiking paradise!
After our original tour (crater lake Lagoa Azul) was still lost in the fog on the second attempt, the only alternative was to stay close to the coast. I think it was worth it 🤩🫶🏼
Go to Faial da Terra, park in the parking area next to the river, the route begins on the path at the end of the parking area following the river up, the path is easy to follow, you pass several waterfalls until you reach the waterfall do Salto of Prego, very beautiful and spectacularly leafy, an advisable excursion, to enjoy a truly jungle environment with the final prize of this spectacular waterfall.
