It's always advisable to check the official Parco del Monviso website or local tourist information centers for the most up-to-date regulations regarding permits, especially if you plan to camp or engage in specific alpine activities. No specific hiking permits are typically required for the main trail itself.
A common starting point for routes that include Lake Fiorenza and Lake Chiaretto is from Pian del Re. Parking is available at Pian del Re, but it can fill up quickly during peak season. Public transport options to Pian del Re are limited, so driving is often the most convenient way to reach the trailhead.

From Pian del Re 2020 m, follow the path that leads to Rifugio Quintino Sella, which starts at the boulder with the source of the Po, passing through the lakes Fiorenza 2113 m and Chiaretto 2261 m, then along an easy stony path you arrive at Colle di Viso 2650 m, short descent to the Quintino Sella refuge 2640 m.
2nd stage of our GTA section from Rifugio Pian del Ré to Rifugio Quitinao Sella at the foot of Monviso. Our companion, Massimo (Max), came at 9:00 a.m., who took over a backpack and inspired us with his knowledge (mountain guide, biologist, forester) for the next 2 days. Great apline path to Quintino Sella, a lot through snow. At the rifugio we were surprised by an ibex population that circled the rifugio and licked the walls ?!. Part of the group then made the ascent to the Viso Mozzo (3017m), which was definitely worth it, especially because of the view. Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, Monte Rosa... you could see everything. About 3/4 of the people in the Rifugio were already preparing for tomorrow's ascent to the Monsivo (would have irritated us a bit, but well, maybe another time). Delicious dinner and bed at 10:00 p.m. (after stargazing).
