Strada dell'Assietta

The dirt climb from Pattemouche to Borgata for at least 50% cannot be pedaled! For the rest, the Assietta tour is always fantastic in good weather ... The overall altitude is almost 1700 meters probably the high pressure has deceived the altimeter and the highest point is Il Genevris at about 2510.

The day of closure to cars would have been yesterday but I tried anyway. All in all the traffic was acceptable, a few motorcyclists and about ten cars/off-road vehicles. It is true that I left early, at 7:45 and at 14:30 I was at the car, the first motorcycles were seen at 10/11. pleasant temperatures up high, light drizzle at Col Basset, from Sestriere I chose the convenient state road to go down and not the dirt road.

It's been a while since we've been back for the simple classic route from Pourrieres. Short and fast but beautiful as always!

A circular route on the watershed between the Ghisone and Susa valleys. We start from Pourrieres, where the first and most demanding climb starts with a stretch that leads from 1,350 to 1,900 m of altitude: the first 7 km up to Pian dell'Alpe are on asphalt, at the crossroads we turn left towards Colle dell'Assietta (2472 m) on a beautiful panoramic white road where after 16 km from the start you can see the remains of the Gran Serin barracks and the monument dedicated to the Battle of Assietta in 1747. Shortly after you reach the Casa Assietta refuge 2,500 m, for a break, continue where you then reach Cima Genevris (2,511 m). A succession of uphill sections alternating with descents with gradients within 200 m: it takes us to Col Basset, where the descent begins, still on a dirt road that takes us first to Sestriere, then on an asphalt road down to the starting point Pourrieres.

Nice ride, next time it's back on a dirt road along the river.

I forgot to start the tour, there are about 200 meters of elevation gain and 2 km 😅 missing
