This route was planned by komoot.
I've always wanted to visit the transmission tower on the Chasseral. If only because it is visible like a gigantic beacon far across the country. It is the technical landmark of the region and is used for both civil and military purposes. Unfortunately, the tower cannot be visited in order to get an even better view. But at least it is possible to look up from the foundations under the skirts, sorry... into the sky-high tangle of steel. People who are not sensitive to radiation should perhaps avoid the mast. Although. During our visit, we didn't feel any radiation. At 1606 m high, the mountain is considered the crown of the Bernese Jura. In clear weather conditions, you can see everything your heart desires on one side, from the Jura, across the Vosges to the Black Forest. Including the wind turbines of the BKW wind farm on the neighboring Mont Crosin. But if you turn your attention to the other side, the first thing that catches your eye are the three aquatic beauties of Lake Biel, Lake Murten and Lake Neuchâtel. If you look up towards the horizon, the majestic mountain ranges of the Swiss Alps perform an impressive show. The Alpine panorama stretches from Säntis to Mont Blanc. The Chasseral is surrounded by gentle pastures, which give it a lovely touch. Numerous hiking trails lead into the distance and leave plenty of scope for adventures of all kinds. The mountain is accessible to private vehicles up to the Hotel Chasseral (just a few minutes' walk from the transmitter mast). A large car park is available. Those arriving this way must, however, expect oncoming traffic on the narrow mountain road. It can get tight at times. However, there are bays available everywhere for this. The most convenient and stress-free way to get to the Chasseral is by post bus. The hotel is also the final stop. Speaking of the hotel. This one offers everything you would expect from a large and well-run mountain restaurant. Finding a free spot on the narrow terrace can be a challenge. A public toilet is also available to "non-guests" free of charge. For all the beauty of the Chasseral region, it should not be forgotten that there is a lot of tourist activity up here. If you can ignore that, you will be happy up here. A tip on the side. Especially in the early evening hours, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset here. It's a good thing the restaurant is also open in the evening. Check out the website! Have fun!
