Welcome to Our Kloosterpad! This day walk along the unique path past the monasteries of Central and East Brabant starts and ends at the Heilig Bloed mission monastery in Aarle-Rixtel. Along the way you will pass various highlights during 13.4 kilometers.
The nuns of the Heilig Bloed mission monastery regularly give guided tours. You can also walk around the beautiful monastery garden. The monastery is located a little before Aarle-Rixtel itself.
After this, you walk for miles through the countryside between Aarle-Rixtel and Gemert. Just before you enter Gemert, visit the field chapel. The field chapel is dedicated to Saint Gerlachus van Houthem. The famous hermit lived at the beginning of the Middle Ages. He was originally a knight from Houthem, but after the death of his wife he left his hometown and went on a pilgrimage. When he returned, he decided to give up all luxury and lived a secluded life in a hollow oak tree.
In the weavers' village of Gemert you can stroll through the old streets and enjoy the historic buildings. Of course you will visit the fairytale castle in the town. This place is truly magical and be sure to stroll around here to relive the historical stories. Finally, you walk back between the vast fields to the Heilig Bloed mission monastery.
The starting point of the route is just outside Aarle-Rixtel. The nearest bus stop to the start is 2.5 kilometers away, at Beek. The nearest stop is in Aarle-Rixtel, 3.5 kilometers away. You can also choose to start the route in Gemert, which you walk through and which is accessible by bus from Helmond station. If you come by car, park close to the monastery.

This route was planned by komoot.
I've walked my first short section of the Kloosterpad, and it feels so different from those dark forests of the past few months. Lots of paved roads, villages, people... I had to adjust, haha. Maybe I should consider different shoes for this kind of hike. But honestly: it was beautiful. The crisp morning air, the rising sun, that soft light across the fields—perfect for photos. The villages were pleasantly busy, but that's part of it here. And all those churches, chapels, and monastic buildings along the way suddenly give your walk a kind of peaceful, almost historic atmosphere. I think I'll do these kinds of routes more often, just to escape the woods.
