Comacchio and its valleys are an ideal place for cycling, pedaling along the waters in the tranquility of nature, with the possibility of spotting the local birdlife.
Leave from Comacchio and to cross the canal at Porto Garibaldi you have to take the ferry that takes you to Lido di Spina via Lido degli Estensi. Take the cycle path, known as the Angels' embankment, due to the many wings of the aquatic birds that reside in the Comacchio valleys. You pedal with water left and right, it almost feels like flying and it's really exciting. In this area the waters are shallow and you can spot pink flamingos standing on one leg and chatting loudly to each other.
Once you leave the Comacchio valleys behind, follow the dirt road to Casalborsetti and then the asphalt road to Marina Romea, where you find a more urban and social life, especially in summer when the Romagna Riviera is populated with tourists.
In Porto Corsini you have to take another ferry to get to Marina di Ravenna. Then follow the trail to Ravenna, a city famous for its Byzantine mosaics and for its history and culture.

A truly stunning day. The Argine degli Angeli in the Comacchio Valley is truly captivating. Some difficulty avoiding the SS Romea road towards Casalborsetti. Then the Ferraresi and Ravenna beaches, often in protected areas. Ravenna is a truly stunning city, with eight UNESCO World Heritage monuments and so much more history. Tomorrow, the final stop and the last two days of pure beach life.
Stage 1 on the Rotta del Sale from Ravenna to Porto Garibaldi. We set off in the rain, but then the sun came out. The ride through the lagoons with flamingos, muskrats, seagulls, and herons was fantastic...
