You think you're just walking along the beach for a bit and then you're hiking almost as many meters in altitude as the day before. Today I came across the Fisherman's Trail again, but this time I followed the yellow and red markings for the circular hikes. This had two dream beaches on offer, as well as bright red rocks and decent climbs, which were complemented by even more beautiful descents. My highlight was a narrow path across the hill down through the greenery and of course the ever-repeating scent of the rockrose 🥰
Let's continue with my hiking review of the Algarve, which I like to dream back to with this dull gray out there. 🤩 The 210 km long Fishermen's Path is probably the most famous long-distance hiking trail in Portugal. And certainly also one of the most beautiful, as it stretches directly along the Atlantic. Over sheer cliffs where the ocean crashes against the rocks with untamed force. More specifically, the Fisherman's Path is just one of the two hiking trails that form part of the Rota Vicentina long-distance path, linking Lagos in the Algarve with Santiago de Cacem in the Alentejo. A few kilometers inland from the Atlantic, the "Caminho Histórico", which is also part of the Rota Vicentina, leads through sleepy villages and the unspoilt hinterland. In any case, what I saw from the fisherman's path on my circular hike, which starts at Praia do Amado, makes me want to tackle the entire route. The route, which is consistently marked in red and yellow, leads at the beginning and end over the Fischerpfad, but also makes a big detour into the deserted hinterland. You should bring a bit of fitness and sure-footedness with you for the tour and definitely choose non-slip shoes. In the middle there is a really VERY steep and slippery descent over scree and also a small climbing passage, which is really short. Nevertheless, this circular hiking trail, which also belongs to the Rota Vicentina, is one of the most difficult of the 24 to choose from. Even if it's quite up and down, Komoot exaggerated a bit with the altitude meters, I guess that half of the information is realistic. I guess I'm not glorifying the trail when I say the views are simply breathtaking. Especially in December, when the wide, huge beaches are deserted and the sun still gives it its all. Not only the Praia do Amado, which is a bit better known and especially popular with surfers, surfers and dropouts, is beautiful. My favorite, as it can only be reached on foot or by boat, is Praia da Murração. You can definitely plan a longer stop there. 🤩 UPDATE: My detailed blog article about hiking in the Algarve with lots of photos, tips and inspiration is now online: 😊 https://www.couchaway.de/wandern-algarve/
We saw an ichneumon on the tour. As quickly as it came out of the bushes, it was gone again. So no photo. But the memory of having seen such a rare animal. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichneumon
