Hey 🤓, Today I'd like to write something about this coastal hike because we really enjoyed it. We parked our rental car for free near Lagos train station and then walked over the pedestrian bridge toward the old town to take bus number 4 to Luz for €1.60 per person. From there, we hiked back to Lagos via the Fisherman's Trail. Anyone vacationing here and interested in hiking should do this hike. We spent a long time at Ponta da Piedade because we were so impressed by the rock formations on this stretch of coast. The old town of Lagos is also very beautiful, but I'd like to explore it all in one day and document it. Best regards, Thomas 🤓
Today it is quite windy and we start at our hotel. We walk on wooden planks over the Ponta da Piedada with wonderful views over the cliffs. As there are large parking lots nearby, we share the path with the whole family. The crowd thins out a bit towards Praia de Porto de Mós. We linger on the beach for a while and then continue along the cliffs to Luz. The promenade is firmly in English hands with live music from the 80s, pizza, beer and burgers. It feels like half the town smells of frying oil. A little way off, we enjoy our Galão with Nata and then make our way back. Another lovely tour.
Today I walked the last stage of the Fisherman's trail. I started early in Luz to be able to make a steep climb right after the village. Once at the top, a beautiful view and from there it was an easy stage slowly descending to Lagos. In Lagos I was included in the naughty tourists who are there in large numbers!!! Eventually I was allowed to walk another 6 km through the city to arrive at the end point😎 What a beautiful trail and beautiful experience. And then... you are suddenly no longer a hiker but "just" a tourist 😂🤣😂😂
@Happy Hikers 🦋🌸🌼🦌🇳🇱 Thank you for your inspiration for the tour! A great hike... 🫶🏻
First we went a good 2 km from the hotel to the central bus station. After a short orientation we saw the right bus and after a short sprint we were on the bus. We paid the €1.60 per person directly on the bus to the friendly and funny bus driver. He had international pop music playing during the journey and happily sang along. After about half an hour drive we were at the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Luz, a beautiful little church in Luz. After a somewhat strenuous climb, we had a beautiful view of Luz and up to the Sagres lighthouse. In Porto de Mós we relied on komoot planning and deviated from the "fishing path". After the path got narrower and went close to the edge of the rock, we came to a point where we couldn't (apparently) go any further. So turn around and back. From the other side you could see a steep staircase at the point, but one of us would probably have gone on strike anyway. 😉
This morning we started our final stage at 7:30 a.m. The sun 🌞 was just rising over the cliff of Luz🥰 We crossed the town quickly until we then went up the cliff very steeply. We were already getting quite warm🥵 The view of the town, the calm sea, the dew in the meadows and the pine forest were enchanting🥰 A relaxed coastal path 🤣 with great views🌊🪨We soon saw the first houses of Lagos. But we didn't want to go straight through the town, but along the coast to the lighthouse. An extremely narrow coastal path awaited me. To my left was the fence of the private property, to my right were steep cliffs. It was extremely steep downhill and I wanted to turn around, but then, thank God, the path led steeply up again😅 The cliffs🪨 in the sunlight 🌞, the turquoise sea 🌊 - simply unbelievably beautiful. The ochre tones of the rocks, the rock gaps where boats 🚤 drive in - just WOW🥰
The ascent to the Atalaja shortly after the start of the path is a bit strenuous, but manageable with sensible shoes. Afterwards you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the rugged cliffs again and again. Once at the top, it is easy to walk on wider paths or even on beaten paths near the edge. Up to Porto de Mos, a bathing beach ⛱ on the outskirts of Lagos, there is neither shade nor a way to get drinks!
