Cabo de São Vicente is the most south-westerly point in Europe and marks the end of the (old) world. From there, the first stop was the cult stall 'Last Bratwurst before America'. Then we walked the Fisherman's Path along the steep coast, always accompanied by breathtaking views, to the fishing village of Sagres.
We were on vacation in the Algarve and did several small hiking tours. Here we were at the southwestern corner of the Algarve and hiked along the coast to Sagres. On the way we could watch the sea and some birds all the time. For me it was an incredibly exciting change from the mountains, in which I usually like to be out and about. 😊 Meanwhile we are back and I have to say, I miss the mild temperatures and the sea a bit. Were you out and about in autumn?
Glad I could make you happy! Thanks for following
From the Fortaleza de Sagres, I walked along the coast to the Cabo de São Vicente lighthouse. There are beautiful views of the cliffs. Every now and then, you come across caves in the rock and hear the rushing water. Once I arrived at Cabo, I naturally enjoyed the last bratwurst before America, complete with a certificate, at the southwesternmost point of Europe, and I caught the bus back to Sagres just in time.
And today was the inevitable rainy day. I was woken up in the morning by the pattering of the raindrops on the small mini balcony of my accommodation. Even after a long breakfast, nothing improved, so I decided to take a bus ride at around 11.30 a.m. I realized that it was the right decision at the bus stop when it was pouring with rain and I was completely wet in 5 minutes. So I drove to Sagres, a very pretty town and the first place on the Algarve. It wasn't until around 3.30 p.m. that the rain stopped, so I was running out of time for my tour to Capo Sao Vincentina, but with a very light backpack it was of course quicker. And it was worth it! First I went through puddles and wet sand over the cliffs towards the cape with beautiful views. And when I reached the cape after 1.5 hours, the sun actually came out a little.
Nice walk along the cliffs, but never very far from the road. Unfortunately, we found the fort at Cap Saint Vincent closed and therefore were unable to descend to the end of the point... Faster return but less pleasant by road because the tour had been unfairly estimated to be shorter.
