This route was planned by komoot.
Note: we encountered numerous dogs running around freely... Some of them barking, but nothing happened....
Walking with lots of insects. I recommend using mosquito repellent spray.
Today we decided on a shorter route near Silves because we wanted to stroll around a bit. The route was not marked but easy to walk, first along the Levada, where after a few kilometers we had beautiful views of Ri Silves. We briefly went through agricultural land and up the slope on a wide path with a view of the Monchique Mountains. Back down in the valley there were numerous orange groves (Silves calls itself the capital of oranges). The route was more varied than shown in Komoot.
First along the canal, then over the hill. My favorite hike in the Algarve. Beautiful nature, good for body and soul. But even here, there are idiots who throw their trash into the countryside.
It actually rained last night. Near Silves we go for a hike along a water pipe. Just above the rivers Rio Arade and Ribeira de Odelouca it winds its way past orange groves. There are a few dark clouds, but the sun soon comes out again. The way back goes over a mountain and shortly before the end we fortify ourselves with mandarins and oranges. Nobody seems to be harvesting the fruit here and many are rotting on the tree. Perhaps they can't be sold because they are difficult to peel and have seeds. But they taste delicious and are super juicy.
Old irrigation canal. Oranges and lemons. Almond blossom. Donkeys and cows. Wild rosemary.
There are hardly any parking spaces on the main street (orange). However, this circular tour initially runs along a side road, where there are parking facilities at the roadside. Along the two rivers you mostly walk along an irrigation canal.
