The Snow Cone and Spatter Cones are the stars of this short hike. The ancient cinder cones tower over the lunar landscape like giant barnacles. You can get inside the two cones via two well-developed paths.
The starting point is a parking lot, which is also the parking area for the longer North Crater Trail. You walk along an asphalt path first to the Spatter Cones, which were formed from countless clumps of hot lava that first flew into the air and then piled on top of each other. From the resulting mini-volcanoes you have a great view of the surrounding landscape.
After the Spatter Cones, explore the Snow Cone. Basically it is also a spatter cone - however, due to the persistent cold and little to no sunlight, there is always some old snow inside. From here you go back to the parking lot.
