Hôtel du Bourbon

Highlight • Historical Site

In the 18th century, Spa and its medicinal waters were a magnet for the beau monde from all over Europe. Emperors, kings, nobles, writers, actors and adventurers flocked here. At that time, the Bourbon family (*French noble family) often settled in this hotel, which today bears their name.
The neoclassical hotel facade is sober and symmetrical, built of brick and limestone.

Trail Reviews

Sportwandelaar
July 9, 2021, Spa (Extratrail 20 km) Rood

We start from the large free parking lot at Spaloumont in Spa. We walk towards the roundabout and cross it straight. When we walk around the building of Spa Thermen (300 meters from the parking lot) we pick up the signposts of Extra trail. After some time climbing we descend along the Promenade des Français. We cross the Avenue Reine Astrid and begin the climb to Creppe along the military domain. Via Creppe we walk to La Géronstère and we walk up the ski slope of Thier des Rexhons. After a short visit to the tower of Bérinzenne (deviating slightly from the signage, total 2 km round trip) we start the descent to the Coupe feu du Tir, we cross the Route des Fontaines, continue until the Gué des Artistes and finally return to the center of Spa. Here we start the last ascent towards Spa Thermen. Actual altimeters 620. Extratrail has plotted this route and is permanently signposted. (red course 22 km) Forest trails, open landscapes, moors full of water, babbling brooks and boardwalks, you will be amazed!

Very nice hiking tour around Spa. Extratrail Spa, red, 22 km. Generally easy to walk paths and paths. Only a short descent requires good surefootedness, especially on a wet path. Magnificent panoramic views accompany us throughout the tour

Departure and arrival at the tourist office, rue du marché in Spa. The signs start at the corner of the street just in front of the tourist house. Technical, physical, difficult course, the 1st part is even dangerous on the descents. Ouuuffff I no longer feel my kneecaps, I still had the chance with time. I started around 11am, the rain suddenly stopped. But with what fell overnight and in the morning the course was muddy and slippery in places, especially on the descents. I am tempted by physical paths, it motivates me to surpass myself.
