This route was planned by komoot.
This loop trail is approximately 7.3 km long and generally takes about 2 hours to complete. This duration can vary depending on your pace and how often you stop to enjoy the scenery.
Komoot rates this specific tour as moderate. While the general area around Lake Coo is known for easier walks, this particular loop includes some elevation gain (around 116 meters up and down), making it a bit more challenging than a flat lakeside stroll. It's suitable for most hikers with a reasonable level of fitness.
The trail typically starts in Petit Coo, often near the Coo Tourist Office. You'll find parking options available in the village, which serves as a convenient base for exploring the area.
Yes, dogs are permitted on this trail, but they must be kept on a leash at all times. It's a great route to enjoy with your canine companion.
The trail offers beautiful views of the magnificent Lake Coo. You'll also pass by the impressive Coo Waterfalls, one of Belgium's highest. Other highlights include the Lower Reservoir of the Coo-Trois-Ponts Hydroelectric Power Station, the Lower Coo Reservoir, and various scenic spots offering a View of Lake Coo.
The path is generally smooth and well-maintained, suggesting a mix of accessible surfaces. While some sections might be unpaved, its suitability for families and strollers in parts of the wider Lake Coo area indicates a relatively easy-to-navigate surface for most of the route.
No, there are no permits required or entrance fees to hike the Walk of the lake of Coo loop. It's freely accessible to the public.
The trail is enjoyable year-round. Spring brings lush greenery, summer offers pleasant weather for lakeside activities, and autumn showcases beautiful fall colors. Even in winter, the landscape can be serene, though you should check weather conditions for ice or snow.
Yes, the area around the Coo Waterfalls and Petit Coo is quite developed for tourism. You'll find nearby cafes and likely public restrooms, especially around the Coo Tourist Office at the starting point.
Yes, this route also passes through sections of the Promenade du Lac and the EXTRATRAIL 17km - Trois-Ponts, offering connections to other local hiking opportunities.
While the Komoot tour is rated moderate, the general area around Lake Coo is known for its family-friendly and accessible paths. Depending on the specific section, parts of this loop may be suitable for strollers, but be prepared for some inclines and potentially varied terrain given the moderate difficulty rating.
We're back on holiday for a few days, just the two of us and the dogs. This time in Belgium, near the charming town of Spa. We arrived yesterday evening, and today we started the day with a leisurely breakfast... and then our legs were already itching to get going. The Coo waterfalls were high on our list, but we deliberately saved them for last; after all, dessert tastes best after the main course. The first part of the route led us along the large lake of Coo, immediately starting with a steep climb that gave our calves a workout. Soon we saw the highlight "challenging rope path" appear on the map. We looked at each other: What are we getting ourselves into now? Well... an adventure! Steep, strewn with rocks and tree roots, and indeed: a kind of rope banister from which we gratefully hung as if our lives depended on it (okay, a bit dramatically). Halfway through, we were rewarded with a view of Plopsaland Coo. It feels strange, such an amusement park suddenly surrounded by greenery. After that, we walked past Coo's impressive hydraulic power station. A technical marvel that not only generates energy but also offers a magnificent view of the lake. In the background, the Ardennes hills and endless forests towered above everything. Belgium at its finest. Just before the end of the route, we were given an unexpected challenge: obstacle courses over felled trees. A crane operator was loading large logs, looked at us, and kindly gestured for us to pass. Well... allowed is one thing, could is another. But we clambered past as if we were auditioning for Expedition Robinson. Joep immediately took off like a seasoned mountain goat, high over the logs. Bailey watched and thought: "I can do that too." Fortunately, that proved to be true, and a minute later we were back on the path, proud and unharmed. And then: the dessert of the day. Near the parking lot, a small staircase descended. With each step, the view became even more spectacular. Until we stood there, completely alone, watching the thundering torrent of the Coo waterfalls. What a force of nature! We suspect this is different in peak season, probably a queue on the steps, but today we had the place to ourselves. A beautiful end to a wonderful day in the Ardennes.
📍 Coo Waterfalls and surrounding area. 🇧🇪 Last night we decided to go to the Coo Waterfalls today. 🌊 We'd seen a walk there a while ago, and we really wanted to try it. 🥾 This morning we left for Coo later than planned. Luckily, it was only an 11-minute drive. 🚗 Once there, we started the walk and quickly noticed what a beautiful area it is. 🤩 We strolled around the water and finally took a quick look at the waterfalls. 👍 Nice to see once, but personally, we expected more. 😉 That doesn't change the fact that the walk was very enjoyable. We had a great time again. 😍
