Finally, time for a nice ride today. Birgit wanted to "relax" while gardening 🌿 – and that's best when I don't help! 😄 Another tour through the Ruhr area has been on my list for a long time. A varied tour with everything that defines the Ruhr region. The route was designed by radrevier.ruhr – I love the name anyway. So, for the description, I simply broke down the word "COLORFUL": 🅱️ – Mining impressions You cycle past old winding towers ⛏️🏗️ – here, hard work became part of the culture. 🇺 – Canalside paths The Rhine-Herne Canal 🚤 – perfect gravel road! 🚴♂️ 🇳 – Local recreation in the heart of the Ruhr region Slag heaps, forests, parks 🌳🏞️ – these green islands suddenly appear. And you forget you're in the Ruhr area. 🇹 – Trail cycling at speed Wide, smooth paths 🛤️ – old railway tracks where you can just roll. 🇪 – Ore railway line History to cycle through 📜 – with a view of the Jahrhunderthalle 🏛️. ❤️ And right in the middle of it all: I bought a bag of colorful things 🍬 for Birgit at a small kiosk in Dortmund. Because after a tour like this, you should also bring something to share. Pure Ruhr area – with head 🧠, heart ❤️ and pedals 🚴♂️.
Got this ride from Komoot: sometimes you shouldn't try to reinvent the wheel. It's a beautiful ride through the Ruhr area, mainly on old railway lines. Extra magical all because of the beautiful autumn colours.
And the Ruhr area again 😀 We have discovered the Ruhr area for ourselves, many thanks to "radrevier.ruhr🌲" for planning the tour. It was fantastic again, the route couldn't be better. One highlight after another, there is no shortage of opportunities to take a break 🌭🌭🥮🍜🍟🍟🍺🍺the almost 70 km flew by. We'll be back, dear Ruhr area 😎😎😇
Another great tour. The highlight was the Hoheward slag heap. A strenuous climb, but the views quickly made us forget the effort.
Hello everyone, I did the tour today because it was spontaneously suggested to me. In short, it was really fun, but some sections are difficult to manage with a touring e-bike. Especially the stairs up to the ore railway line. That might be manageable with a light bike. But older people won't be able to get up there with a heavy bike. You should know about the route that the RHK is closed after about 1 km near the end of the König Ludwig Trasse on the canal in the direction of Castrop. The recommendation is to switch to the Emsch cycle path to the new Emscherland Park, take the "Jump" there, and then continue following the route. Otherwise, the route along the various mines is truly a colorful bag of the Ruhr area, where you discover many new little things. I stopped at the Hoheward slag heap because I live in the area. I recommend doing the climb up to the Halden Platoe if your battery still holds up, and/or taking the Aktiv Linearpark with you. Conclusion: All in all a successful round 🙃

Today was a mixed bag... oh no... filled like a colorful bag🙃. We walked along beautiful canal and railway paths... through some former workers' settlements and past slag heap landscapes. The historic Henrichenburg boat lift with its attached museum made us linger... meanwhile, unnoticed, a rain shower passed over the land. Next, we wanted to go up the Schwerin slag heap... but a second rain shower forced us to ignore it... because it doesn't make sense when it's raining. So we continued on to the Zollern mine. Because we spent too much time in the boat lift, the remaining time window was too short for a detailed tour of the mine (closing time 6:00 p.m.)... well, we'll have to go back later. Well... and then shower number 3... now we really had to get out the rain gear. At the end of the tour, the sun came out again and everything was fine🙂.
I took a very varied tour through the beautiful region in temperatures around 30°C. The tour was based on the "Bunte Tüte" (Big Bag) tour from the Ruhrverband, with some adjustments for me. The start and finish were at the Henrichenburg ship lift (plenty of parking). Many sights and plenty of nature, but of course also a fair amount of city traffic. The ride through Bochum, with its several road construction sites, was particularly annoying, but it's part of the experience. I took breaks at the Zollern mine, at Holger's ore railway hut, at the Ewald mine, and at Mike's hut at the jump over the Emscher, a fantastic bridge over the canal and Emscher. The tour in this weather was strenuous, but beautiful, and easily manageable with plenty of breaks and cold drinks. This was also because, contrary to my usual habit, I skipped all the climbs to the numerous dumps along the way. Nevertheless, I still managed over 400 meters of elevation gain.

On this route you can experience a lot of industrial culture with mine towers, workers' settlements and slag heap landscapes. But nature is not neglected either. Look forward to wonderful riverside paths, beautiful forest sections and relaxed cycling along the railway line.
