After @Christine Atelier im Knauer Garten and our host recommended the route, we also did the tour of the disappeared Zwin ports by bike today. But only after we had been to Westvleteren to try the 12, which has been named the world's best beer several times. It also only has a measly 10.2% alcohol 🥴 the bike tour is mostly on well-paved bike paths or back roads and is very well signposted. We even cross briefly to the Dutch side. We even made a quick detour to the beach to walk barefoot on the sand 😊 the North Sea is still quite fresh 🥶 on the way back we had a bit of a headwind, which unfortunately isn't measured in altitude 😅 the food was delicious too 😋 definitely a lovely bike ride here in flat Flanders.
We are still flashed from today's tour...but first things first. This morning we shifted to Damme, about 7 km northeast of Bruges, for today's day tour. This is where today's bike tour started: the "Verdwenen Zwinhavens" bike route. First of all: the tour is absolutely fantastically signposted and leads along absolutely beautiful and natural cycle paths. Streets can only be seen from time to time, often along canals, through the forest or through beautiful avenues with huge trees. All bike paths are super passable. Today's tour took us through all these landscapes and in between through small towns to the North Sea 😍🥰🤗 We were able to stop at several places directly on the tour. Several windmills line our way (did I mention that I love windmills?), lots of sheep 🐑 and cattle 🐄, lakes and canals, benches and bridges. Plus two places where you could see through 3D glasses and learn how
Lovely tour by bike along the disappeared Zwinhavens. Discovering this beautiful piece of land with such a rich history. Recommended! If you want, you can extend the tour to Bruges. 🤘😎
Route "disappeared zwinhavens" very nice many beautiful houses castles and mills. Exceptional brasserie's with excellent ' t vogelkooien at Stefanie.
This is not the complete Verdwenen Zwinhavens route. Very nice route through the polders, highly recommended! The Verdwenen Zwinhaven route starts in Bruges and meanders along the Damse Vaart to Sluis, on to Retranchement. You cycle to t Zwin via the international dike. You return via Knokke, Sint-Anna ter Muiden to Oostkerke. Along Noorweegse kaai back towards Bruges.
Really great corner for gravel riding. Great bike paths, beautiful, well-kept places. Sometimes it was just too hot🥵
Great tour, beautiful landscape, beautiful Bruges...unique
