Very nice hike with lots of information boards about the Steverauen and the flora and fauna there. In addition to the actual Steverauen, highlights included the Füchtelner mill with origins in the 14th century, the Poitou donkeys, which are threatened with extinction, and the three-arch bridge from 1893. I also came very close to two stork nests📸 Not only the highlights mentioned, but also the many viewing platforms, seating areas and several free parking spaces make the Steverauen near Olfen a real insider tip in the Münsterland👏🏼👍🏼
A great lap through the steverau landscape. We already had very nice impressions on our Hohe Mark Steig Tour and now we went on a round trip. The Naturbad Olfen is an ideal starting point for an extensive hiking tour.

I saw the tour at @Katja von Döhren-Polenz, thanks, Katja! 👍👍😁 I slightly adjusted them for me. Of course, there isn't really a zoo in Olfen, but there are still many animals to be seen here in the Stever Auen. While a large part of this circular route through forest, fields, groves and meadows was very nice (to walk), there is also a lot of asphalt to type off. You just have to know that. All in all, a sunny round with many rest stops, animal observations and, as a great highlight, 2 pairs of storks!
It's already a tradition with us, the last day of vacation or Sunday belongs to us 😏, we always do something nice there and everyone thinks about something. Then the family council meets and a decision is made 😅, often funny how it works 🤣! At least Olfen clearly won today and that's how it started😊. This is the story: It all began in 2002 with the sober name "Grazing Project Steveraue". Areas were designated, fences set up and the renaturation of the Stever course started. And then came the big moment: the first Heck cattle and Konik horses arrived to find a new home in Olfen. They were soon followed by Poitou and Catalan donkeys. The aim was and is that the rhythm of life and the feeding behavior of these semi-wild animals alone should form the formerly farmed areas and the Stever be allowed to overflow its banks again with impunity and transform the adjacent areas back into a real meadow. Just great 🥰, we even saw the storks 😍! Here each of us got our taste 😊, even the cows 🐄 arrived with their calves and cuddled with us (in exchange for a small grass bribe 🤣) . A beautiful 😍 piece of earth, will come again, can only be recommended!
A beautiful, easy-to-hike round through the Steverauen surrounded by a calming landscape. Also very interesting for children, as animals can be seen again and again at short intervals. We chose to start at the cemetery.
Today we did a nice loop through the Stever meadows near Olfen. You can always observe many animals there, so it's good to have binoculars with you. Today we saw Koniks, Heck cattle, Poitou donkeys, storks, deer, many pheasants, geese (grey, Egyptian and Canada geese) and herons. Part of the route runs along the Hohe-Mark-Steig. https://www.olfen.de/tourismus/steveraue
6 degrees plus were announced, but because it was very windy, it felt much colder. I even wore gloves for the first few kilometers. I had already seen the tour 2 or 3 years ago and today we chose it because there should be a lot of open terrain. The part south of the Stever was very nice, but because of the cold headwind we shortened the planned tour. North of the Stever wasn't quite as nice. It went over smaller roads, with few cars, but also with little view of the Stever. On the old trip it was better again.
