The network of cycle paths in the former mining area south of Leipzig is simply brilliant. The tour is highly recommended and can be varied according to your mood and time.
Beautiful bike tour along the lakes in the south of Leipzig with a short stop at the mining technology park. On some sections there were branches and twigs on the paths as a result of the storm on July 6th, 2024. Along the tour there were numerous opportunities for small and large refreshments as it was Sunday. The tour can also be easily managed with a children's bike trailer.
Nice tour on Labor Day! It's been a long time since I've put my old bones on my bike. The beers of the last few days were still in my bones, but that didn't stop me. The start of the tour had to be postponed because my tire was flat and needed to be changed. No problem, I changed it and off I went! The effort was worth it. I met an old friend along the way, so of course I pulled over for a little chat. Thanks for the smug chat, M. (You know who I mean 😉) The bike paths were awful in places, but what else can you expect from Germany? - different topic - All in all, it was a great tour, highly recommended! Now I'm off to enjoy my beer! Happy May 1st to you all!
Today we went along five lakes in the Leipzig New Lake District: Hainer See, Störmthaler See, Markkleeberger See, Cospudener See and Zwenkauer See. The post-mining landscape, some of which is still to be created and is part of the Central German Lake District, consists of parts in the Leipzig district, the North Saxony district and the city of Leipzig. As part of the recultivation and renaturation of the former brown coal mining and its facilities, numerous bodies of water have been created and are being created from the open-cast mining pits, which will fill up in the coming years and decades and some of which are to be connected with canals. There are numerous very well-developed cycle paths along the lakes and hardly any elevation gain.
Today around 5 lakes in Leipzig. Beautiful circuit with constant views of the lakes.
Unfortunately, my cell phone does not have the cpl. Tour recorded. I turned it off because of overheating 😬
A leisurely tour around the Störmthal, Zwenkau, Cospuden, and Markkleeberg lakes on well-maintained bike paths. Some stretches were a bit lonely, but there were also some heavy traffic. Pleasant weather, a good lunch at the "Radlerhof Gaschwitz," and delicious ice cream from the "Mario Gelado" shop on the Markkleeberg lake promenade made the tour perfect.
For Men's Day, it was "Sports Free." I highly recommend the Leipzig 4 Lakes Tour. There are very well-developed bike paths, plenty of places to eat, and little incline (in case kilometers count more than elevation gain 😉)
