Today, in wonderful weather, we showed our friends the umbrella trail; it was truly a dream. The only irritating thing was that, given the weather, there were hardly any people at the Franz Ferdinand Hut at lunchtime. The Salzstanglwirt was also sparsely occupied. But all in all, it was an excellent nature experience through the pine mountains.
Fantastic, golden 🍁 autumn tour 🍂 in the Vienna Woods. After more than a decade, we drove the beautiful Parapluie route again! I'm often approached by people about Leonie on the bike, today it was actor Wolfgang Fifi Pissecker. It was nice conversation and Leonie liked the cuddles 👍🐶😜
Today did the first (for me) longer tour with friends. I am appalled by the weak average of 10 km / h. I used to have at least 13/14 km / h. Well, you don't get any younger ... This day was made for it. Especially the last part was a pleasure - just let it go ... As a curiosity, I discovered the natural cemetery "Waldesruh", a joint venture between Städt Bestattung and Bundesforsten near the new Wienerhütte in the direction of Breitenfurt im Wald. Seems like good business .... I still take my time! 😜
After I discovered a few beautiful sections of the route while hiking yesterday, I wanted to explore them on my mountain bike today. The basis was the well-known Parapluie route, which I had expanded to include various trails. The start was at the Wiener Hütte. What surprised me a bit is that some people were out on their bikes in this weather, despite the actual driving ban in the Vienna Woods in winter. Although it was sunny most of the time, it was still quite brisk, especially where the wind was strong and there were snowdrifts. The trails were great, you can tell there are a lot of mountain bikers here. And I would have found a parasol too... Conclusion: A great route put together in perfect winter weather. I love biking in the snow and the special challenges that it brings.
Shortly after the start of the tour in Flösslgraben 15-20 cm of snow, all that was left was pushing. On the forest road in the Kugelwiese, Seewiese and Höllenstein areas, a snow plow has cleared away the worst amounts of snow. Then again 10-15cm, easy to move. But a lot of sunshine and wind only at the end.
Actually, only the "real" and rather easy Parapluie round was on the program today, but since the ground conditions were better than expected and the cold was bearable in the wonderful sunshine, I extended the tour a bit and went to the highlights and Trails ridden off the beaten path. All I can say is simply brilliant! Snow, sun, beautiful landscapes! What more do you want? The name of the tour "Parapluie" comes from the umbrella pine trees that are very often found in this part of the Vienna Woods.
Converted the new bike to tubeless yesterday - done in half an hour without spilling a drop (for the first time, otherwise it was always a mess)
After quarantine and bike repairs, active again despite the borderline weather (wind, the last 10km in the rain).
