The Bockhartseehütte is currently only open Thursday through Sunday. A wonderful cooling dip today at the upper Bockhartsee.
Footbath at the upper Bockhartsee. Stop at the Bockhartseehütte on the way back.
The Obere Bockhartsee is a mountain lake in the Bockharttal in southern Pongau and is located at 2,076m in the municipality of Bad Gastein. The lower Bockhartsee is an artificial reservoir and is located at 1,872m. The lower Bockhartsee is part of the former Bockhart district, where gold was mined until the middle of the 20th century. There is also a legend and a short video about the lakes. The dragon from Bockhartsee: A long time ago, a fertile high valley with numerous mines for gold and ore extraction is said to have been at the point where the Bockhartsee is today. The squires are said to have been quite arrogant, and as punishment the valley was covered with ice by a dragon. According to legend, when the ice melted again, the Bockhartsee was formed and buried the treasures beneath it forever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7d0P59DBKg
