The Moselsteig Side Trip Moselachter consists of two varied circular trails that meet at one of the most famous and beautiful viewpoints on the Moselle, the Zummethöhe, and together form a figure-eight. Here, you'll find a small wooden cross, next to which you can look down into the Moselle Valley and over part of Bernkastel-Kues. A few benches offer the opportunity to take a rest.

August 27, 2025,Moselsteig Seitensprung: Moselachter (K)
Just before heading home, I had to do a detour on the Moselsteig.

After completing the boring Mosel Camino, I wanted to capture some beautiful views and the true Mosel feeling. 👀.

Actually, for the otherwise 100% Mosel detours, it was unusual this time that the second lap was about 2-3 km along a forest highway.

A beautiful tour. It had been on my mind for a while and since it was too warm for the dogs today, the decision was made pretty quickly.
I was glad that Komoot was running in the background as navigation, because every now and then I found the signage strange or even non-existent. The tour also goes through a campsite, …

From the large wooden frame with its rows of seats, a sweeping view opens up over the Moselle River, the vineyards, and the village in the valley below. Here, the "Moselachter" (a local nickname for the Moselle river) reveals its scenic side – from a distance, the valley appears like a living canvas, with ships, trains, and clouds slowly drifting …

This detour seems to have combined two smaller circular routes. I was not impressed by this Moselsteig detour. Sure, the view of the Moselle is always great, but it takes more to get me excited about a circular hiking trail. Too few rest areas and information boards. What bothers me most, however, is the fact that the route crosses over …

In great weather with 16 degrees, it was wonderful to start hiking.
From the Zummethöhe car park I start the Moselle Lake high above the Moselle with fantastic views and start with the northern circuit of the Kronenberg Circuit and always along the vines.
The colorful leaves of the vines and splashes of color from plants are fun.
The view …

I really liked the hiking trail and can therefore recommend it with a clear conscience. 🥾👍🏼

Great sections of the trail with great vantage points (Zummethöhe & Moselkino), a small slate cave and the small Marienkapelle Altes Bildchen, which was built in 1756, are the highlights of this tour.

Two loops make one loop.
The Kroneberg Loop is the more beautiful, but also more adventurous, route. We start at the Zummethöhe, above Trittenheim and the vineyards. After a few meters, we're warned that the trail leads over steep, narrow sections, only for experienced hikers. There's an alternative route. We take the risk 😊 These sections continue to the Konstantinhöhe, …

Hey, here we are again. Vacation time is also hiking time. Off to the border river between the Eifel and Hunsrück. First, we hiked the Sonnenberg loop, which mainly follows wide paths with beautiful views. Part 2 of the loop then went over the Kronenberg, which requires surefootedness and a head for heights. Of course, we visited the slate cave, …
