Hiking

An easy circular hike amidst the imposing mountain scenery of the Gemstel Valley with several rest stops. The tour enchants with breathtaking mountain scenery and numerous huts serving delicious regional specialties.

From the Mittelberg district of Bödmen, the hike leads along the rushing Breitach River and the shady banks of the Gemstelbach stream into the Gemstel Valley. The ringing of cowbells announces the Schönesbodenalpe Gourmet Hut. A short detour is worthwhile, as cool drinks and magnificent views of the Kleiner Widderstein, Bärenkopf, and Walmendingerhorn await.

Continue over a bridge and the next alpine hut on the other side of the valley is not far behind. Bernhard's Gemstel Hut is known for its excellent Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancakes). Refreshed after this enjoyable break in the Gemstel Valley, return to the starting point via a wide, stroller-friendly gravel path along the Gemstelbach stream.

Tip for families: In the Gemsteltal, children can discover the nature of Kleinwalsertal in a playful way. Further information about the nature exploration adventures can be found at www.kleinwalsertal.com/naturforscherabenteuer.

Along the Gemstelbach it goes into the Gemstel valley. Keep your eyes open, because the name does not come from anywhere. A chamois may have walked here recently.

Homemade mountain cheese, ham from the smokehouse and apple pie to clean. The very thought of it makes me almost get into the car to take the road from Vienna to Kleinwalsertal.

You should definitely try the Kaiserschmarrn at Bernhards Gemstelalpe. No joke, one of the best Kaiserschmarrn. The rustic little house and the absolutely friendly service make this hut an absolute highlight in the Gemsteltal.

Very nice and not difficult circular hike with refreshments. The path goes along the stream on the edge of the meadows and the forest. Run well with children. About seven kilometers.

Oh you beautiful Kleinwalsertal. Splendid. Along the Breitach through the Gemsteltal to Alpe Schönsboden. Delicious fresh warm ham from the smoke oven, plus fresh buttermilk. What more do you want. There are a total of 4 Alps to choose from on this circular route.

Unfortunately, that's all I can do. 🙄 I wonder when things will slowly get better or when I'll make a breakthrough towards health. 😔😷🤧

A beautiful little valley! The circular route is normally strenuous and easy to manage even for inexperienced hikers! 👍

Beautiful tour. Delicious snacks at the alpine pasture. Friendly hospitality. On the way back, the route was once again not properly recorded. Just imagine the straight line disappearing.

A beautiful hike that is suitable for families as well as for fur noses. The tour starts at the bus stop "Gemse" from where the tour leads a few meters along the street and then crosses it. The path to the hut can be walked on both sides. While the one to the left of the wooden bridge is a little less steep, but longer, but the views are more beautiful, the path to the right of the bridge is a little shorter but steadily uphill. After approx. 2.8km you will pass the Schönebode Alpe on the left-hand side. Looking further ahead, you can see the Hintere Gemstelhütte. To get to the side of Bernhard's Gemstelhütte, continue along the path and cross the wooden bridge. Then there is a last little uphill stretch, then Bernhard's Gemstelhütte is already in front of you. Here you sit wonderfully in the sun, children can romp outside and when it gets too cool, a cozy hut lounge entices you to sit inside.

Final round in the beautiful Gemsteltal with a stop at “Bernhards Gemstelhütte”

A region with a very special charm, not only because of its rustic huts, its surrounding mountains, or the torrent that winds through the valley, it also has a prehistoric history: the Gemsteltal Valley. This leisurely hike also takes us on a journey back to the Stone Age.
