Flower meadows surrounded by larches: Pasque flowers, blue gentian, arnica, and other plants share the fields with grassland and dwarf shrubs, sheltered between light-filled conifers. The so-called "owl meadows" were created by slash-and-burn practices, as farmers created new pastures at higher elevations.
While the other trees burned, the larches survived and sprouted again the following spring. This unique natural landscape remains so beautifully preserved today because it is nurtured and cared for. Once a year, the trees are even mowed with a scythe. A place you won't find anywhere else. The circular hike starts and ends in Gleins.

Again, we had to go up a bit further to find enough snow.
Our goal today the Eulenwiesen. This is a platou, some 100 years ago there was burned to make room for animal pastures.
