Hiking

On our tour on hunters' trails we go on historical paths. People have always moved on foot between the small Franconian Forest villages on narrow paths through the hilly terrain. The formerly dense network of paths was also used by hunters, foresters and the so-called "plant women". They remained in people's memories as "hunters' trails", although many of these path connections have been forgotten today. Our tour uses the old forest paths and connects historical sites and beautiful viewpoints with pure enjoyment of nature.

Jägersteig

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

The varied hunters' trails lead without any opportunity to stop for refreshments on partially narrow paths through spruce and beech forests around the upper Langenauer valley with many clear views from steep, unsecured rock sections into the valley. In some places a certain level of sure-footedness is required. Highlights are the ramparts of Burgstein (the destroyed Wallenrode Castle; information board), the Eichendorff fountain, the Kämmleinsfelsen, the Rauhgrund, Grießbachgrund and the "Schwammerling" lookout point (the "Schwamma" that used to stand here - as in Schwarzenstein - was not rebuilt due to the limited view). This circular route also requires sturdy shoes, is not suitable for cycling and should not be walked in the snow. In summer you can discover some botanical rarities.

Kämmleinsfelsen Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

Here, hikers can enjoy the beautiful view of the Langenautal Valley and far beyond. A bench and a shelter invite you to linger. The Kämmleinsfelsen rock is accessible via the marked hiking trails DÖ 94 (Auf Jägersteigen), DÖ 97 (Säuerlings-Weg), and the Lotharheiler Runde of the Geroldsgrün Geotrail.

The starting point of the impressive circular hike on Jägersteig is the Max-Marien spring in the Langenau valley near Geroldsgrün. On narrow paths we explore the beautiful forest area around the Langenau spring area and enjoy wonderful views.

Trail Reviews

Lydia
June 14, 2025, Wanderung auf Jägersteigen im Langenautal, "Frankenwald Steigla", Kämmerleinsfelsen

Brother-sister vacation in Bad Steben; Day 3: Where to go on a day that threatens to reach almost 30 degrees Celsius in the shade, even here in Upper Franconia? The best option is the forest. On a Frankenwald-Steigla (a Franconian forest trail) through the Franconian Forest. To be prepared for all eventualities, I've planned a short tour, and we leisurely, adjusted to the temperature, climb the first ascent to the Kämmerleinsfelsen (rocky ridge). We'll bring our own food and drink; there are no refreshment stops. We let our gaze wander over the green hills of the Franconian Forest and enjoy the quiet Jägersteig (hunter's trails). This Frankenwald-Steigla (a Franconian forest trail) offers us a great deal of variety. Some sections require careful tread and are no different from paths in the Alps. Other times, we walk along wide roads. All in all, we made the right choice today, on this hot day. We have the shade of the trees almost continuously above us. At the end of our hike, we collect healing water from the Max-Marien healing spring. Healing water fountains everywhere!

The Franconian Forest at its best. Enchanted paths, a very well signposted circular route. Enchanted, abandoned forester's lodge, healing water from the Max Marien spring, beautiful, untouched and unclouded views of the Langenautal. Hiking heart, what more do you want....

One of the most beautiful tours in the Franconian Forest! The starting point of the hike is the - unfortunately dilapidated - forester's house Langenau, there are also some parking spaces available here. The tour's namesake (marking DÖ 94 - Auf Jägerstieg) are the many paths we are on. In earlier times, these so-called hunters' paths were used by woodcutters and foresters for inspecting the area and for hunting. The highlights are - in addition to the natural paths - the Burgsteinblick (at "Wilferts Hütte" it is essential to follow the sign "Zum Burgsteinblick" and make the worthwhile detour!) And the view from the Kämmleinsfelsen. After the hike is over, you can refresh yourself at the Max-Marien-Quelle. But be careful - the mineral water takes some getting used to! The tour is very pleasant to walk, but sturdy shoes and surefootedness are essential.

A deal decided by US 5🐕🐕🕺👯‍♂️-weather bomb-WHAT nice 🌸do: let's go to. Parked in the old forester's house ..through the big gate-this wonderful -wonderful -Jägersteig-🐗🦇🦄😁-up to the Kemmerleinsfelsen-tangled-secret forest paths-which led us along under a green canopy 🥰🌳🌿-given us a fantastic view- then we went to the next dream view up the Burgstein stairs - stairs down and to the "magic fountain" along the rustic little river - another forest path - we came back to our destination - a short distance by car so that we could have our delicacies 🍨🍰🎂🍭🍕 not as far as having to carry our HUGE HUNGER🙆‍♀️👼--Brotzeit on the Kemnerleinsfelsen-Perfect👑🌸-this is how paradise must be🥳 and WE were full like from Cockaigne👼

After a long injury break I was finally on the road again today! The goal was the hiking trail DÖ94 (Auf Jägersteige). The starting point was the small hiking car park in Langenau. In fact, the path led mostly along climbs. In the morning the air was still wonderfully fresh and the views from the Burgsteinblick and Kämmleinsfelsen were overwhelming...

...always a highlight - one of my favorite tours🥰-Fantastic view of the Kämmleinfelsen and the Burgwall--narrow climbs meander through nature -and you think you have it BEST in the whole world🙃🥳🙌🌸👑
