This route was planned by komoot.
The Heiligenhauser Runde is rated as a moderate difficulty trail. While it involves an uphill climb of 136 meters and a descent of 138 meters, the paths are largely easy to walk on, making it suitable for hikers with a good basic level of fitness, including families.
The trail offers varied terrain, including about 3.17 km of asphalt, 2.33 km of paved paths, 862 meters of gravel, and 740 meters of natural trails, with some sections of loose ground. You'll experience rolling hills, picturesque forests, and idyllic valleys characteristic of the Bergisches Land.
The route features several notable points. You'll pass through the serene 'In Paradise' landscape, discover cultural and historical stops like a former waterworks (now a museum), and explore the town center of Heiligenhaus. A unique highlight is Germany's only wagon bridge on the former railway line, now part of the PanoramaRadweg niederbergbahn. Don't miss the Abtsküche Courtyard Café for a break.
Yes, the trail offers several scenic spots. An easy ascent over the Mühlenberg rewards hikers with magnificent views. You'll also find specific viewpoints such as the View of Im Paradies and the View North of Heiligenhaus.
Yes, the Heiligenhauser Runde is designed as a discovery loop, meaning it starts and ends at the same point, offering a continuous journey without retracing your steps.
While specific official parking areas are not detailed, many hikers start near the town center of Heiligenhaus or close to the Abtsküche Courtyard Café, where parking might be available. It's advisable to check local parking regulations upon arrival.
The trail leads into the town center of Heiligenhaus, which is likely accessible by public transport. For detailed public transport connections to Heiligenhaus, you can consult local transport websites or services like nrw-tourismus.de for planning your journey.
The trail passes through nature reserves like the Rinderbachtal and Vogelsangbachtal. While dogs are generally allowed on trails in the Bergisches Land, it's always recommended to keep them on a leash, especially in nature protection areas, to protect wildlife and ensure a pleasant experience for all hikers.
The Heiligenhauser Runde can be enjoyed in various seasons. Spring offers blooming nature, summer provides lush greenery, and autumn showcases beautiful foliage in the picturesque forests and valleys. Given the varied terrain, it's generally accessible year-round, though checking local weather conditions is always a good idea.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Heiligenhauser Runde discovery loop. It is freely accessible to the public.
Yes, you'll find charming spots to take a break. There's a quaint 'Herberge' café near the former waterworks museum, and the Abtsküche Courtyard Café by a reservoir is known for its homemade cakes and scenic views over the pond.
The Heiligenhauser Runde is divided into an urban and a natural part. The route through Heiligenhaus is peppered with sights of different cultures, from the first wagon bridge in Germany to the Abtsküche museum landscape, to name just two. The section outside the town leads through a paradisiacal landscape, over the Mühlenberg with a wonderful view and the Rinderbachtal and Vogelsangbachtal nature reserves. If any discovery loop deserves the title "varied", then this one is it! 📔Neanderlandsteig discovery loops: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/2582879/-neanderlandsteig-entdeckerschleifen
Better than the last, beautiful views alternate with history. Spontaneously set off after work, the 8 km are easily manageable. I really enjoyed the round despite the cold. It was just somehow more... If I had known that I was going hiking like this at the beginning of the year, I would have taken part in the mega challenge. That's why I signed up for the 55km Mammoth March.
I found this wonderful tour under the following link: https:// www.neanderland.de/tour/ discovererschleife-heiligenhauser- Runde The fire brigade museum is highly recommended and worth a visit, especially with children (everything is free and the staff are very friendly!!!). The two rest stops are also highly recommended!
So this was our first discovery loop. Stops included: Heiligenhaus town center Niederbergbahn panoramic cycle path with its unique railway bridge Abtsküche with café and pond (currently not accessible due to the relocation of the Rinderbach stream) Charming local history museum (free entry) A stop at Café Herberge, cozy and with delicious cake Overall, very varied and ideal for an afternoon hike.
Today I hiked the first discovery loop of Neanderland. A nice tour near Heiligenhaus. Overall a short but very worthwhile tour 🌞⛰️🏞🥾
After it had rained so much, we didn't expect it to hold up today and chose a shorter tour nearby. The round around Heiligenhaus is nice. There is little traffic in the village on Sunday, but there was a lot going on around the Abtskuch reservoir. The route north of Heiligenhaus was beautiful - lush green and beautiful views. Overall, the route was too heavy on asphalt.
Heiligenhaus isn't that exciting now, but the second half through the forest was nice. Great to strengthen something in the courtyard café too :)
