This route was planned by komoot.
Unfortunately, on my tour today I was forced to take a detour. Shortly before Betten the path was closed due to logging. The tour was marked as open on the information board on the Bettmeralp. It's a shame that this is not communicated to the foresters. You have to accept such boards. For me the option of going back was not an option, so I went down to Mörel and the whole way to Fiesch was in the smell of exhaust fumes. The ever-improving weather completely made up for the long climb from Lax to the Fiescheralp and the visit to the Aletsch glacier on the Eggishorn.
Today I have to go. I haven't climbed this much on a biobike in a long time.
Based on the weather forecast, we had decided to tackle the section to the Aletsch glacier on the 2nd stage. In terms of altitude, we were prepared for a similar topography to the 1st stage.⛰🥵😎. So early in the morning we set off up a serpentine with a gradient of almost 10-15% to the Fiescheralp. Unfortunately, the water point marked on the Stoneman map (for the uphill section) was not to be found.🤨 Fortunately, there was a restaurant on the Fiescheralp where we could stock up again.🙏☕🍰☺ We got to the 3rd checkpoint Märjela through the almost 1km long Tälligrat tunnel. On the way back, the route towards Bettmeralp became increasingly more trail-heavy. While this is fun on the one hand, it also takes a lot of energy considering the altitude we have covered. Then we went for a really sporty ride on the loop to the 4th checkpoint Moosfluh, which looks inconspicuous from a distance. Here, blocked terrain and short but steep climbs came together. But once you get the impressive Aletsch glacier in sight, all the effort is quickly forgotten.💪😮 Incredible, what a view. 🏔🤩🤩 The crowning glory of the 2nd stage was the descent back into the valley to Mörel, where we were able to take in the magnificent mountain silhouette of the mighty Matterhorn, despite the pretty thick cloud cover all day.
Tour with magnificent views. From km 18 to about km 23 the path can be pedaled only for short stretches. It is often necessary to put the bike on your shoulder. Therefore, heavy bikes are forbidden .....
Today we took the easy variant and covered the largest vertical meters by train. The connection ride to the Riederalp is beautiful and feasible for everyone. The return trip to the valley then took place via individual trails, which were a bit too demanding for us in the upper part. However, the lower ones are quite easy to ride, even for our ability. The good thing is, you can also master everything on the street. It's just a gorgeous area.
So today followed day 2, unfortunately it didn't roll in, it really started right away, up to 2360m to Märjela. Then then on breathtaking trails that demand everything, both downhill always on the abyss and uphill with pushing and carrying passages. Then you drive permanently on at 2100m up to the ascent to Moosfluh where you can push and carry another 300hm as a final highlight. All the grind is rewarded with an unbelievable panorama of the Aletsch Glacier and several 4000m peaks. At the end you plunge into a 1400hm long descent with partly. for normal bikers inaccessible passages that can also be avoided.
