This route was planned by komoot.
Komoot classifies this tour as moderate, primarily due to the varied terrain and some uphill sections, particularly through the gorge. While some sources describe parts of it as 'easy' and suitable for all fitness levels, be prepared for a dynamic hike with an elevation gain of approximately 238 meters.
The Klamm-Ruinen-Rundweg usually takes around 1 hour and 32 minutes to complete. This duration is for the full 4.5-kilometer loop, but your actual time may vary depending on your pace and how long you spend at points of interest.
Yes, access to the Wörschach Gorge, a major highlight of this trail, requires an entrance fee. However, it is free if you have a Schladming-Dachstein Sommercard or Steiermark Card. No other permits are generally needed for the trail itself.
The trail offers a blend of natural beauty and historical sites. Key highlights include the 'wild romantic' Wörschach Gorge with its roaring water and footbridges, the impressive Wolkenstein Castle Ruins offering panoramic views into the Enns Valley, and the Talblick Viewpoint. You'll also encounter a historic lime kiln.
Yes, this trail is considered family-friendly. The varied terrain and interesting features like the gorge and castle ruins make it engaging for children. The paths are generally well-marked and easily walkable, though supervision is always recommended, especially in the gorge section.
The trail is generally dog-friendly. However, please ensure your dog is kept on a leash, especially in the Wörschach Gorge section where footbridges and narrow paths are present, and out of consideration for other hikers and potential wildlife.
The best time to visit is typically from spring through autumn. The Wörschach Gorge is usually open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM until October 31st. Visiting during these months ensures access to the gorge and more pleasant hiking conditions.
Specific parking information for the trailhead is not detailed in the provided data, but generally, trails of this nature in the Enns Valley have designated parking areas near the main access points, often close to the entrance of the Wörschach Gorge. It's advisable to check local signage upon arrival.
Yes, sections of the Klamm-Ruinen-Rundweg are part of the northern route of the long-distance hiking trail "Vom Gletscher zum Wein" (From Glacier to Wine). It also intersects with other local paths such as Wörschachklamm - Klamm Ruinen Rundweg and Salzsteigweg 09.
The terrain is varied. You'll navigate footbridges and bridges through the rocky streambed of the Wörschach Gorge, continuously climbing uphill. Beyond the gorge, the path leads through historical areas to the Wolkenstein Castle Ruins. The paths are generally well-marked and offer a mix of natural and historical landscapes.
While specific amenities directly on the trail are not mentioned, the trail is located in the Enns Valley between Liezen and Niederstuttern, which are towns likely to offer cafes, restaurants, and public restrooms. It's a good idea to check for facilities in these nearby towns before or after your hike.
Great little gorge. Highly recommended, especially on hot days. The wooden steps can be very slippery, so wear good shoes. Otherwise, a lovely circular walk.
A very nice hike! If you want a drink at the end, you have to walk back from the parking lot to the entrance.
After the small Planai tour, this was the second tour today. Luckily, entry to the gorge was free with the Schladming-Dachstein Card. We found 6€ quite a lot for the short piece, but it is also put into the entertainment. Hang in there. Basically you walk 1km on a boardwalk that is divided into different zones, hush hush (danger of falling rocks), brisk walking and linger zones. Sorry, I liked the gorge the least compared to the others and the climbs that we crossed. It then went back more or less over the gorge and past the castle ruins. In front of it was a nice, dreamy section, but somehow the stretched barbed wire destroyed it. All in all: it works. You can do it, but you don't necessarily have to.
Today at the end of the holiday we did a little lap which was also very spectacular. But the tour is anything but an easy one, as komoot classifies it, it is extremely steep and sloping in places, as well as being exposed, the elevation gain is only correct to a very limited extent, as is the length - realistically speaking, it is more like 8 km, but you will have great nature and crazy outlook. All in all, a very successful conclusion. Only recommended for people with good shoes and absolute surefootedness
A wonderful hike through the Wörschachklamm. The gorge itself is about a kilometer long. This is followed by sections through forests with paths that are completely criss-crossed with roots and a beautiful section with a panoramic view over the valley.
We started from the Wörschach gorge car park. A fee of 6 euros is payable to maintain the hiking trails, and with the Summer Card the walk through the gorge is free. The climb up the wooden walkways offers a fantastic view of the gorge, but requires a certain level of fitness. Behind the gorge, a short detour to the sulphur springs is possible (+ 5 minutes). The Wolkenstein castle ruins offer a wonderful place to take a rest and explore the medieval remains. From here, the return journey leads back to the starting point via pleasant forest paths. There is a small beer garden and a souvenir shop here.
