Steinerne Jungfrauen Rock Formations

Highlight (Segment) • Natural Monument

As I'm taking more photos than usual today in this great landscape, a few sporty hikers rush past me without enjoying the view over the Ramsau plateau and the jagged rock faces. A few benches and tables with local sayings on them line the sometimes steep but never really difficult climb.
The climb through the pine alleys and the fascinatingly shaped rock columns on the Jungfrauensteig is pleasantly mild in the back sun.

Austria Hut and Dachstein Alpine Museum

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Alpine club hut on the Dachstein. Ideal as accommodation for the Dachstein circuit. The Alpine Museum is located directly in the building and shows, among other things, the history of the Dachstein ascent.

Brandalm

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Brandalm is picturesquely situated at 1,600 m above sea level in the middle of the Ramsau Alm area at the foot of the Dachstein.

Dachstein house

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Very nice Alm with an amazing view. Very nice hosts. Even though it was a day off, I got soup. Since my jacket was soaked through, the landlady hung it over the tiled stove to dry. On the way to the alp I had another encounter with an adder. Back soon.....

Very strenuous ascent to the highest letterbox in Austria at an altitude of 1,955 meters The time is not correct, 1 hour has to be added. Apparently not always GPS reception.

The weather forecast predicted a chance of thunderstorms starting this afternoon, so I set off early today for this magnificent hike and couldn't stop marveling at the overwhelming beauty of the Styrian mountain landscape. 🤩 For me, as a "flatlander," the ascent over the Steinerne Jungfrauen to the Gamsfeldaussicht was naturally challenging. With over 600 meters of elevation gain in less than 3 km, the climb was very steep. I sweated profusely 💦💦 (...but it was also humid 😅) Up top, at the highest mailbox in Styria, I first delivered a few postcards to relatives, friends, and colleagues and enjoyed the heavenly silence and view. The descent then led via the Austriahütte and Brandalm to Ramsau. This tour requires surefootedness and sturdy footwear, and my hiking poles served me well on the descent due to the heavy scree.

Beautiful weather, a beautiful tour with two or three great huts that round off the day with a culinary treat...

Super beautiful...but only for experienced hikers!!! The scree field is not for the inexperienced! You have to be very sure-footed and not afraid of heights.

That was a really great tour with great experiences and views Here's the video https://youtu.be/8Ow5m5XM8F4?si=pfpdID5gr3ebgBlO

600 meters of ascent, feels vertical 🥵, but the path along the Dachstein massif - unique

Super beautiful, with a great view (hence the many pictures ✌️)! I don't think the whole route is suitable for children. There are some steep steps on the way up and often loose rubble on the way down.... Take lots of water (also for the dog/no water at the top) and good shoes (VIBRAM soles say hello 🤪) and maybe poles for the descent 👍👍👍👋

Tour was really OK. Time specification does not match. Was really only a steep 600 m. Then run and continue over scree fields. So actually a great tour with adrenaline 🥾🌄🥾
