Collegiate Church of Saint George and Saint Ode (Amay)

Highlight • Religious Site

With its size and three towers, the collegiate church "Saint-George & Saint-Ode" dominates the central square of Amay in an imposing manner.
The building of Romanesque origin was built in the 11th century but has undergone many changes. The major works from the 18th century give the church its current architectural appearance. The originally austere character has made way for a coherent and beautiful profile.
The church is only accessible between 6 April and 14 September, on Saturdays from 11 am to 5 pm. This is a pity, especially because it houses two treasures that are recognised as Heritage of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation: the magnificent Merovingian sarcophagus of the sancta Chrodoara which can be admired through a large glass opening in the choir, at the site of its incredible discovery on 22 January 1977, and the sanctuary of Saint Ode, a masterpiece of Meuse goldsmithing from the 13th century. This church is classified as an exceptional heritage of Wallonia. It was completely restored between 1998 and 2001.
