This route was planned by komoot.
Yes, a vignette is required to ride the singletracks within the Nationaal Park Veluwezoom, where this route is located. This helps maintain the trails.
The route offers diverse terrain, including extensive forests, open heathlands, and remnants of shifting sands. You'll encounter numerous singletracks, alternating with longer flat sections and wide gravel paths. The southern part features challenging, rough climbs and natural descents, while the northern section is flatter.
The route is generally classified as moderate (blue). However, advanced riding skills are recommended for some parts, especially if you choose to tackle the optional 'red' loops which include technical features like jumps, drops (30-80 cm), and tree trunk stairs.
You'll ride through the beautiful and adventurous Nationaal Park Veluwezoom, enjoying stunning panoramic views over heather-covered hillsides near Paviljoen de Posbank and Koepel de Kaap. Notable features include the Red Route: Log Steps Climb (Veluwezoom), the Veluwezoom Mountain Bike Trail, and the Holloway Bridge. Look out for specific sections like the 'Mayor Flowertrail' and 'Plaggentrail'.
While the exact starting points can vary, the route is well-marked within Nationaal Park Veluwezoom. Look for designated parking areas near common access points for the Veluwezoom MTB trails. Specific trailhead parking information is usually available on local park websites or komoot's tour details.
The trail can be enjoyed year-round, but spring and autumn offer particularly pleasant conditions with mild temperatures and beautiful colors. Summer can be warm, while winter rides might encounter muddy or icy sections, depending on the weather.
Regulations for dogs in Nationaal Park Veluwezoom can vary. Generally, dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash, especially in areas with wildlife. Always check the latest park rules before you go.
Yes, the route has designated spots for food and drinks, which are marked with blue signs. These provide convenient stops to refuel during your ride.
The Blue Route offers optional 'red' loops, indicated by red route markers. These sections include more challenging technical features like jumps and drops. You can choose to ride these red loops to increase the difficulty or stick to the main blue route for a moderate experience.
Yes, the route primarily follows the MTB Veluwezoom-Blauw-Hoofdroute. It also shares sections with other trails such as the MTB Veluwezoom-Groen-Gravelroute, Maarten van Rossumpad - 11, and the EuroVelo 2 - Nederland part 2, among others.
The Veluwezoom stands out for its challenging and varied character, which is somewhat unique for mountain biking in the Netherlands. It features significant elevation changes, diverse landscapes from forests to heathlands, and the option to integrate technical 'red loops' for an added challenge, all within a stunning natural park setting.
90% of the tour could have been done with a regular bike. Lots of gravel, loose sand, and regular paths. I don't understand the reviews. The area is very beautiful, though. And there are plenty of elevation gains.
Beautiful route, due to heat I didn't take the last 2 red loops. Enough single tracks and the red loops are sometimes quite tough but very worthwhile. The heathland is beautiful and smells very nice. Here and there some parts with loose sand but it's not worth mentioning. Animal kingdom was also awake...
Great route unfortunately had to be cancelled due to a broken chain.
Nice cycling. Nice round. Blue as the main route with an occasional red loop. Nice technical with beautiful single tracks with a good flow
Due to the drought, a number of single track sections of the trail were closed and diversions were set up. Despite that, still a nice round left..
Very light clouds, 12°C, Feels like 11°C, Humidity 81%, Wind 24km/h from SW - Klimat.app. Beautiful route and seen many views. Have ridden the entire blue route with the red heavier routes connected there, which then ended up on the blue route. It was a tough trip with many climbs. Sit on it, and feel that I have ridden.
Just search from the visitor center. The route no longer starts here.
National Park Veluwezoom, Tour Rheden blue route with the adjacent red routes. In summer temperatures and without knowing the area, I headed for the Parkerplaats Heuvenseweg, where the blue route was supposed to go. After a few kilometers I was on the route and had to go uphill first. (Netherlands😂😂). Unfortunately, the recording only started from the blue route. After a few field paths, the first red trail followed with some fun curves and a pump track. We continued on the blue trail with flowing sections, which I think was the most fun because you can ride the curves at speed. The route has red trails that are very varied and sometimes technically challenging. We continued on the trail with a small obstacle because a bison was taking a break. The northern part of the blue route was very flat with field paths. But it can be shortened. The last trail (Granny Trail) was again very good and was really fun at the end.
