This route was planned by komoot.
Very nice climb up to the Hoher Törl. First over alpine pasture and through forest, later partly secured with ropes over rock. Even after the Hoher Törl there are still safety devices in tricky places. Later there is a path on the slope that is easy to walk on and then a road. Because of the rain the "descent" is at a brisk pace on the gravel road.
A well-developed and asphalted toll road (€9 per car) takes you to the heart of the Lienz Dolomites. The beautiful Rudl-Eller-Weg, a challenging path, begins directly behind the car park. We climb through mountain forest and over alpine meadows to the Zillinköpfe. After a steep gully with a wire rope, the path branches off to the right to the Piccola Ferrata via ferrata. The scenic ridge leads up to the Hoher Törl, where you meet the normal path again. The path continues under the steep rocks of the Laserzwände up to the Karlsbader Hütte. There we enjoy delicious Kaspressknödel with salad on the terrace with a great view. After the obligatory walk around the lake, we head down the valley on the normal path to the Dolomittenhütte.
Very exciting and interesting round with stunning views and challenging sections, some of which are secured with wire ropes. The only drawback was that we were attacked by cows on the way. Wolves are probably very active in the area and the cows are already irritable because of the young calves. Luckily nothing serious happened! Otherwise absolutely recommendable and the most beautiful hike since Corsica.
Access to the car park is via a toll road (for cars €8). From the car park, it goes over a road or alternatively up a steep path to the Karlsbaderhütte. On the way back we took a detour via the Rudi Eller Weg. This is partially rope-secured and only for experienced hikers. It was too steep for us, so we turned around and descended back to the road via a path that also has two rope-secured points. Then it was back to the parking lot. Conclusion: A dream landscape, the path very varied and highly recommended as a day trip. The reference to the Rudi Eller path is to be taken seriously!
