Today we're walking the first stage of the Oosterscheldepad. A new adventure. It starts at Kruiningen station and ends in Wemeldinge. An unexpectedly pleasant and varied day. With wonderful walking weather. After 5 km, we enter the fishing village of Yerseke. Famous for its oyster, mussel, and lobster farming. It has a charming harbor, a lively economic scene surrounding the farming, and several fish restaurants along the water where you won't be disappointed 😋😋 Yerseke is the highlight of the day. But after the usual hustle and bustle, we arrive at the Yerseke Moer nature reserve. A centuries-old peat meadow area, one of the oldest polders in Zeeland, it's also a Natura 2000 area, where we see cows and many birds. Wonderful, that peace and quiet. We then cross the bridge over the Zuid-Beveland Canal and approach the finish line in Wemeldinge. A village situated on the Oosterschelde estuary and the mouth of the English Channel through Zuid-Beveland. It's wonderful to stroll along the promenade and beach, overlooking the glistening water with the Zeeland Bridge connecting Noord-Beveland with Schouwen-Duivenland in the distance. A wonderful first day!
