This route was planned by komoot.
Pure nature, the conditions have been accurately portrayed. Just let the pictures inspire you.
After Plan A didn't work out, as the sign for the Gorfenspitze included a via ferrata requiring a via ferrata set (marked as T1 and T2 on Komoot), we quickly changed our plans. The Predigtberg was supposed to be the alternative, but when we reached the start, a sign indicated that the path was closed for work. So we had to find another alternative. Since we were already on the climb to the Jamtalhütte, we simply kept going. The path is beautiful, but it's a long one. It's definitely better by bike. The top, though, is really beautiful, and there are plenty of options for further progress.
Today we started on foot - to the Jamtalhütte in the beautiful Jamtal, which starts almost directly on our doorstep. Last year we rode the tour on bikes, which was a lot of fun, but also had its challenges due to the steep ramps just before the hut (at least with the bio bike). There was a beer at the hut, then we went back to Galtür. The way back is more fun with the bike and is also much faster 😭 As always, the altitude meters are completely wrong, it was 640 and not 1000. Thanks Garmin / Komoot!
The Jamtal is a long side valley in the Paznaun, which stretches from Galtür to the glaciated Jamspitzen at the transition to the Engadin. The parking lot for today's tour is at the Menta Alm, which is located at the entrance to the Jamtal and is easy to reach from Galtür. The first short stretch of the route runs on asphalt, then the path splits and continues to the left of the creek as a hiking trail, to the right of the creek runs the small road that leads via the Disc Alm to the Jamtalhütte. The path is beautiful to walk. Mountain streams fall from the slopes into the valley, which have to be crossed on small bridges, the alpine roses are just starting to bloom, we see yellow and blue gentian, refresh ourselves at small springs, walk around rocks, discover ponds with tadpoles and listen to the stream that accompanied us the whole way. The Scheibenalm is still closed in the morning. A nice spot by the stream and a snack out of a backpack replaces the restaurant. Up to here about half of the way is done. The end of the valley with the Jamtalspitze is getting closer. The snow fields are clearly visible and the wind that blows down from the mountains into the valley brings cool air with it. The hiking trail reconnects with the access road and after climbing a few more meters, we see the Jamtalhütte (2160 m). This is also still closed. (This is pointed out at the parking lot). Due to a small injury to my youngest's toe, we decide to take the driveway as the way back. Of course, this does not have the charm of the hiking trail by far, but it is simply more practical in such a case. The way back with the Jamtalspitze behind you and looking into the Paznaun Valley, accompanied by peaks towering to the right and left, leaves no room for boredom.
Really nice tour if you want more distance and fewer meters in altitude. You walk a good 10km behind the Jamtal to the hut. You can choose whether to stick to the steadily slightly uphill road, or rather follow a narrow hiking trail with more ups and downs. I cannot recommend the Jamtalhütte culinary. The spinach dumpling soup was ok and the cappuccino was a joke: small cup, half full when the foam dissolved, the rest lukewarm and bitter, and all for 4.10 euros. You always have fantastic views, especially if you climb up a bit from the hut, like I did (wasn't busy yet ;-). From the hut you can continue on to a glacier or tackle the "three 3000m peaks in one day" tour. The next time...

Cloud-covered mountains today, so a tour through the Jamtal was a good idea today. We were able to drive to the Menta Alm. From there we went through the Jamtal to the Scheibenalm and then on to the Jamtalhütte. As you can see in the photos, communication with the alpine cows is always necessary in order to make progress on the hiking trail 😁👋. It was a hike with the constant rushing of the Trisanna stream in our ears. It felt like being at the sea. A beautiful tour considering the weather 🇦🇹⛅️ The purple flowers are Turk's lettuce lilies, which are protected.👋🤩
A very beautiful valley. Three good pastures. The middle one is the Scheibenalm. A must for every hiker. Very nice owners and great food and drinks.
