This route was planned by komoot.
Just returned from a nice walk through the Oostvaardersplassen, because part is closed it became the Oostvaardersveld. On the road early in the morning, wonderfully quiet!
A beautiful hike through the polder landscape that is not maintained. Heck cattle, red deer and countless bird species can be observed there!!
We have wanted to take a look at the Oostvaardersplassen for a long time. Maybe it was the route or the time of year. We actually didn't like it much. The route we took took us along a train track, you can hear the highway quite loudly, the area was quite ugly and the first horse we encountered was very sad, only very old. We were not happy about it. Nevertheless, we had a nice walk and we will give the Oostvaardersplassen another chance in another season and with a different route. Does anyone have any tips?
January 28, 2024: Nice walk through the Oostvaardersveld. I saw large groups of greenfinches, goldfinches and siskins. And a kestrel.
Unfortunately in the Netherlands there is always noise from traffic. Street, train or plane you always hear it unfortunately. So you know that you are unfortunately not that deep in nature. But it is a beautiful piece of nature here. To be honest, I don't find the forest very varied and we only saw the beautiful couples from a distance. Uncles was not clear from where the route was calculated, but we easily arrived at 7 km instead of the indicated 5.2 km.
A nature reserve that is highly recommended. Unfortunately, we had chosen a bad time, as many birds were breeding or the young birds were already there. As a result, some paths were blocked. Nevertheless, we made a nice loop and even saw a few wild horses. Proper camera equipment is highly recommended. The animals can hide well in the high reeds. However, we have seen some photographers who are very well equipped. If you want, you can spend a lot of time observing there.
October 26, 2024: Beautiful autumn walk through the Oostvaardersveld. You will pass 4 observation huts/observation points: - De Krakeend - De Kleine Praambult - De Poelruiter - De Brentgans On the way I saw 5 sea eagles, buzzards and at De Poelruiter I saw a kingfisher. In the reeds you can hear the strange sound of the water rail here and there. Small birds such as the robin, goldcrest and all kinds of tits were also very vocal today. The starting and ending point is the picnic table along the Kotterbospad at the entrance to De Krakeend.
