This route was planned by komoot.
The Lübbenauer Gurkentour is approximately 30.8 kilometers long and generally takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes to complete by touring bicycle. This duration can vary depending on your pace and how often you stop to explore the sights.
The route is mostly flat and considered an easy bike ride, suitable for all skill levels. You'll primarily cycle on paved surfaces, though some sections may include unpaved paths or loose gravel. There are no significant inclines, with elevation gains of only around 58 meters.
The tour offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural highlights. You can explore the old town of Lübbenau, visit the Lutki Fountain and Market Square, and cycle along the scenic Gurkenradweg between Lübbenau and Leipe. Don't miss the reconstructed Slavic Castle Raddusch, and keep an eye out for gherkin tasting stands and museums dedicated to the Spreewald gherkin.
Lübbenau is the primary starting point for the Gurkentour. You'll find various parking options available in and around the town center, often near the harbor or train station, which provide convenient access to the route.
Yes, the Lübbenauer Gurkentour is generally dog-friendly. Many sections of the trail are suitable for cycling with a leashed dog. However, always be mindful of other cyclists and pedestrians, especially in busier areas or narrow paths. Remember to bring water for your dog.
The best time to cycle the Gurkentour is typically from spring through early autumn (April to October). During these months, the weather is usually pleasant, and the Spreewald's natural beauty is at its peak. Summer offers the warmest temperatures, while spring and autumn provide beautiful foliage and fewer crowds.
No, you do not need a specific permit or to pay an entrance fee to cycle the Lübbenauer Gurkentour. The route passes through the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve, which is freely accessible to the public. However, some attractions or museums along the way may have their own admission fees.
Absolutely! This route is considered easy and largely flat, making it ideal for families with children. The mostly paved surfaces and manageable distance are great for younger cyclists. Plus, the gherkin theme and various attractions along the way provide plenty of entertainment.
Yes, you'll find numerous opportunities to stop for refreshments. The route passes through charming villages and towns like Lübbenau and Lehde, which offer restaurants, cafes, and gherkin tasting stands. Many places feature unique gherkin dishes like gherkin stew or gherkin soup.
Yes, the Lübbenauer Gurkentour shares sections with several other routes. Notably, it follows parts of the Gurkenradweg (Nord- und Ostring) for about 44% of its length. It also intersects with portions of the Kranich-Tour, Radweg Berlin-Dresden, and the Spreeradweg [Cottbus↔Lübben].
The Lübbenauer Gurkentour is uniquely themed around the famous Spreewald gherkin. You'll see explicit 'cycling gherkin' logos marking the trail and have countless opportunities to sample gherkin specialties, visit pickling plants, and learn about their cultivation. It's a culinary and cultural journey through the heart of gherkin country.
A short holiday bike tour in the Spreewald forest from our holiday apartment in Lübbenau. To the harbor in Lübbenau and on to Lehde, Leipe, Stradow, Göritz, Boblitz, and back to Lübbenau. We partially traveled along the so-called Gurkenradweg (cucumber cycle path). After a short orientation ride yesterday, today was the first bike ride for and with the new bike. The black Haibike (last tour on September 7, 2025, picture 4) has now become a white Centurion. For those following us, it should be noted that we had to cross the waterways three times over bridges with steps. However, there were ramps for pushing up and down. So, with e-bikes, you should be familiar with the bike's push assist.
Hello fellow cyclists! It was a beautiful tour. I started in Lübbenau and then went to Lehde. There, you have to visit the museum village, which is very well done. You can immerse yourself in the history of the Spreewald with beautifully restored houses. Then, the tour continued on good, level paths along streams and ponds. You also pass several locks. Along the way, you'll always find somewhere to stop and linger. This tour is highly recommended even for those who aren't in good shape. The RE2 train connection also worked out perfectly. From Berlin Ostkreuz towards Cottbus to Lübbenau. I always enjoy cycling in the Spreewald and discovering new things.
Beautiful circular route with well-developed paths. Mostly tarred. Fine gravel in places. Between Leide and Lübbenau there is a forest path that is easy to navigate.
Sun, clouds, rain... After our third attempt, we finally set off today. We skipped the Slavic fortress of Raddusch; €13 per person was too much for us and those who came after us for just a castle. Otherwise, a lovely tour through the country.
I found the tour on Komoot, made a few changes, and off I went. I bought a day ticket at the large parking lot in Lübbenau and headed towards Lehde to Cafe Venedig. First, I had a quick bite to eat. From then on, I recorded the tour. It's a great bike ride, mostly on good paths, and we were able to enjoy the scenery. It was beautiful and I recommend it!
Beautiful path through pure nature in bright sunshine. In Raddusch stop at the "Alter Backstube" with delicious things in interesting surroundings. Then to the historic Slavic castle. Continue to Vetschau Castle after delicious waffles in the market parlor. Overall a very scenic route.
