We took the Pinzgauer Bahn to Niedersill. From there to Krimml rail replacement service. Onward transport of bicycles only by prior arrangement. The highlight of the tour was the Krimml Waterfall. From there it was mostly slightly downhill to Zell am See with a wonderful view of the mountains. The altitude meters are wrong at the back and front.
Despite its length, the tour from Krimml to Bruck was relaxing because it was all on the bike path. However, if you have to return to Krimml, you'll need a full battery, and keep in mind that the Pinzgau Railway only runs as far as Mittersill, as the rest of the route won't be completed until next year.
The ideal starting point in Krimml: right at the start, wonderful descents in unison with the Ache. But be careful: gravel and grit tracks! Fantastic paths follow through the valley of the Salzach, with views of snow-capped peaks (Großvenediger) and extensive meadow landscapes. The sense of smell was also catered for: with an unforgettable scent of fresh hay. Old childhood memories come up... The high-end tourist resorts such as Kaprun and Zell am See are a bit daunting. But there are still the old buildings and courtyards. Recommended! The second stage to Lofer follows tomorrow...
A beautiful bike path with some incline, especially up to Krimml. And after the bridge over the Krimmler Ache (= Salzach) river, there's an extremely steep section (up to a cattle gate) that was OK for mountain bikes, but borderline for heavily loaded trekking bikes. After that, it's back to asphalt, and then you're on the steep road to Krimml.
Stunning ride, every part of it. Downhill from Krimml (took a bit of time to find the right way) from hotel. Following river Salzach and some parts it 's tributaries then from Kaprun turning north. Beautiful green valleys, dotted by pretty alpine towns surrounded by mountains. Part from Kaprun to Zell am See is stunning cycle path along beautiful lake and snow covered mountains as a backdrop. Perfect coffee/lunch stop at Mittersill stadtplatz, sunny with tables outside under umbrellas, pedestrian area.
In the morning: low clouds, it starts to rain at breakfast. What's left for us to play as UNO. At 10 a.m. it stopped raining and we set off. The cloud cover quickly cleared and it was another beautiful day. We arrived along the Salzach and through countless beautiful places. We ended our tour at the Bruck/Fusch train station. We went home by train. The 2 last planned days literally fell into the water. However, our 4 days were so eventful, close to nature, simply breathtaking.
Day 1 of the Tauern Cycle Path. The weather is better than predicted. But unfortunately the beautiful mountains around could not be seen all day. But you can't change it. The bike path itself is only a very unpleasant gravel path at the beginning, especially since the ground was already quite damp. I would like to thank the nice drivers who just waved us through when crossing streets 👍.
