A narrow, root-strewn path leads for around 3 km along the rippling, red-brown waters of the "Weisser Main". A short stretch of gravel path leads to the Karchesweiher and the first refreshment stop. The Weißmain-Ochsenkopfsteig leads uphill to the Weißmainfelsen, the Weißmainquelle, the Göthefelsen and finally to the summit of the Ochsenkopf. There, the 191.5 m high transmitter and the view of the country from the Ochsenkopf landmark are impressive. A steep, stony path leads down the mountain. Past the Ochsenkopfschanze, the high ropes course and the summer toboggan run, you return to the starting point.

The Weißmain Ochsenkopf Steig is marked 1a and leads along the young Weißen Main at the beginning of the tour. A path can hardly be more romantic - only the noise of the nearby federal highway occasionally disturbs the idyll - but is usually drowned out by the rushing of the water. 😏👍 Past the Weißmainfelsen and the beautifully framed Weißmainquelle, you finally reach the summit of the Ochsenkopf. From the Asenturm you can enjoy a fantastic view of the surrounding area. After the descent there is another beautiful view from the hill rock of Bischofsgrün and it becomes magical again..☃️😉 In addition to the natural beauty, there were also two animal highlights with the crested tit and the three-toed woodpecker..💧🐮
A demanding tour from Bischofsgrün/Nord along the nature trail to Karches. Very nice path along the White Main, but interspersed with many roots. Fantastically beautiful, rustic and natural. From Karches up to the Weißmainfelsen, which you can climb via stairs. The fantastic view at the top is very worthwhile. Continue to Weißmainquelle and up towards Ochsenkopf. Shortly before that, you should take a detour to the Goethefelsen, also worthwhile. From the Asenturm you have a magnificent all-round view. However, a very windy affair. From the Ochsenkopf landmark, it's a very rocky path back down in the direction of Bischofsgrün. Very well signposted, many rest stops and great views. All in all a very nice tour.
Today we went to the Fichtelgebirge. We started our tour at the Karchesee hiking car park on the Goetheweg to the Weißmainfelsen, continued to the Weißmainquelle, a short detour on the Goethefelsen to the Ochsenkopf summit. While we're there, we obviously didn't want to miss the view from the Asen Tower and were rewarded with a good view today. We continued past the cable car station to the Ochsenkopf landmark. Following the Weißmain-Ochsenkopf-Steig we went down towards Bischofsgrün. This path required good surefootedness due to the many roots and stones. Opposite the Ochsenkopf ski jump, we treated ourselves to coffee and cake at the Maria-Alm. Past the valley station we continued on the beautiful Weißer Main nature trail back towards the hiking car park. Here too you had to demonstrate surefootedness.
Target group: ambitious hikers who want to enjoy beautiful paths and trails. Quote: "Second certified hiking trail of the Fichtelgebirge association Bischofsgrün. Along the young Main, Weißmainfelsen, Weißmainquelle, Ochsenkopf summit with landmark, ... At 1,024 m, the Ochsenkopf is the second highest mountain in the Fichtelgebirge. A hike on this "local mountain" of the Bischofsgrüner can be considered a "must do" for every hiker who visits the Fichtelgebirge. The starting point of the certified Weißmain-Ochsenkopf-Steig hiking trail is above the Ochsenkopf Nord valley station. The information board there describes the way. The round marking shows the way, which leads out of the village in an easterly direction, past the winter sports facilities into the high valley of the young Weißen Main. A romantic path along the river leads to Karches (former blast furnace), where the forest rest house by the lake invites you to stop. Now it goes up to the Weißmainfelsen, which is reached via forest roads and later on a narrow, stony path. Climbing the stairs to this mighty granite bastion opens up beautiful views of the Schneeberg massif. The path leads up to the Ochsenkopf summit via the Weißmainquelle. After a stop in the Asenturm, the viewing platform lures with a comprehensive view over the Hohe Fichtelgebirge. After the detour to the "landmark rock" it goes on a partly rough mountain path in a direct line down to the Vogelherd and over the hill rock, which offers a wonderful view of Bischofsgrün, back to the starting point." Source: https://www.fichtelgebirge.bayern/detail/id=5f15fb2a312b0c5876933c27 A beautiful trail - very often paths over roots and rocks, only a few wide paths. With one of the most beautiful hiking trails I've walked this year. The climb itself is given as 10.4 km - with a few detours to the rocks and vantage points, it became 12.4 km. On the white Main I was almost alone, it only got crowded on the Ochsenkopf. The cable car from the north was already out of service, so the hiking trail was less crowded than expected.
The most beautiful hike in a long time 🤩👍 Highly recommended for anyone who doesn't just like flat trails. Anyone who enjoys hiking over hill and dale and isn't afraid of a few meters of elevation should definitely try the Weißenmsin-Ochsenkopf Trail. Besides the Ochsenkopf, a few other rock highlights await. There are a few inns along the way for refreshments, as well as plenty of benches, some of which offer magnificent views. The trail is also extremely well-marked from start to finish, no matter where you start or which way you go (white sign with a gray rock and a blue river).
